One common misconception our patients have about exercise is that’s just a “bonus in life.” It’s not a requirement to feel good and look good. They often times don’t see the carry over of various forms of exercise to life situations (lifting weights, body weight exercise or cardiovascular exercise).

Examples:

  • Squatting = sitting down, toilet time, etc
  • Hinging = lifting a child, helping a friend move, petting a dog
  • Carry Variations = groceries, backpacks, children, etc
  • Pushing = jump starting a car, opening doors, pushing a kid on a swing
  • Pull = opening doors, dragging objects, luggage, starting lawn mowers

In this podcast, our serial co-host Dr. Cody Dimak, and I cover some ways we communicate the need for exposing our patients to load, so they can better navigate load in daily life. We also cover exclusions to loading in our clinical experience.
