Anyone who’s cooked competition BBQ for any length of time can identify with the ups - and downs - that occur for even the most-experienced teams. Jim Self lived that on back-to-back weekends so we sought him out for Episode 156 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast. Jim tells us about his Papa Jim’s BBQ team and how he dealt with a brutally tough doubleheader weekend and followed it up with a championship showing just a week later. It’s good advice for all.
Our “Under the Radar” segment, where we learn about up-and-coming teams in the BBQ world, also returns for the first time in 2022. Jacob Beine of Kilt-In It BBQ tells us why he wears a kilt while cooking (hence his team name) and what he’s learned in a relatively short time in competition world.
Co-hosts Lyndal and Steve also talk about their cooking weeks, the thrill of adding a new smoker to the roster and take a quick look at the busy sports world (the NCAA basketball championship for the Kansas Blue Chickens, Tiger Woods at the Masters and opening of baseball season).
A big thanks to our great sponsor/marketing partners who make Season 4 of the show possible: Blues Hog BBQ Sauce, Royal Oak Charcoal, The Butcher Shoppe, Iowa BBQ Store, Fergolicious BBQ, Affordable Financial Services, Arkassippi Smoke Live and The Arkassippi Combo, Pro Technology Solutions, Vietti Marketing, In the Garden of Eden and Marty “Sign Man” Prather and Domino’s.
We still have room for a couple of more sponsors. Contact me at [email protected] for more info. Have a great BBQ Week and thanks for listening! #SmokeEmIfYouGotEm
