When you hear the name Mike Davis you know its Lotta Bull BBQ and I always think of his wrapped RV pulling in the parking lot. 6 time world bbq champion. You better listen because you don't know what will come up.

Mike Davis is a legendary figure in the professional barbecue circuit, best known as the owner and lead pitmaster of the Lotta Bull BBQ competition team. Championship Legacy: A 6-time World Champion and 4-time Grand Champion of the American Royal World Series of BBQ.

Prolific Winner: Mike has earned nearly 90 Grand Championships and over 1,100 total awards.

Hall of Fame: He is a 2026 inductee into the Kansas City Barbeque Society Hall of Fame.

Global Reach: Won the 2008 World BBQ Cook-off in Munich, Germany

Luke and I catch up and we just let the chatting go its own way. We may talk secret black magic bbq or just simple how to stuff. We don't know. We do dive into cooking at the Jack, and preparing for that. I didn't realize the musical love he has and it is brought up also.

With a career spanning several decades, he is widely regarded as one of the most consistent and successful competitors in the sport. Tommy Houston’s trophy case is one of the most crowded in the barbecue circuit:

• World Championships: He has won over 20 major championships, including multiple world titles.
• Jack Daniel’s World Championship: He famously won the Grand Championship at the prestigious Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue.
• Prolific Winner: Throughout his career, he has earned hundreds of Grand and Reserve Grand Championships across various sanctioning bodies like KCBS and MBN.

Larry and Karen Orton are the entrepreneurs behind Orton’s House Seasonings, a rapidly growing brand based in Edmond, Oklahoma. Their journey transformed a private family recipe into a household name distributed across multiple states and internationally. The Creator: Larry Keith Orton is the primary cook of the family and created the original seasoning blend in 2011, shortly after marrying Karen.

The Launch: Although the blend was initially just for family meals, the couple officially launched the business in 2020 after friends and family encouraged them to bottle it.

Dynamic Duo: Karen is the visible face of the brand, handling much of the marketing and public appearances, while Larry often works behind the scenes.

Faith-Driven: The Ortons often credit their business growth to their faith, noting they didn't originally plan to sell the spices until they felt a spiritual calling to do.

Back doing an interview. We talk with Glenn Drake, a brand ambassador for Butcher BBQ. I wanted to show everyone that our ambassadors are not all comp cooking teams. Glenn is a family man with a career while having a passion for grilling. His favorite thing to cook is dinosaur beef ribs. When he got to talking about them I was made of questions. I left nothing unturned so you will know how to cook them. Also he takes a jab at a friend of his that recently bought a flat top cooker.

My guest that was to be on, had an emergency so you get me chatting about the American Royal, ways I am hearing to use our chicken brine, stupid news, and recap of the contest we did following our prep on the last podcast.

This was fun documenting my week leading up to a comp. I get asked this so I thought I would just talk as if I was writing in my diary. We cover trimming meat, making injections, my comp trailer, and even where I messed up the end of the week.

I sit down with one of the hottest bbq cook teams on the circuit today, Curt Wallace with team Smoked and Furious. He has won 5 Grand Championships this year. He started cooking 2 seasons ago. Everyone can learn from how he approached the game of comp BBQ to help themself.
