We’ve been overdue to visit with one of competition BBQ’s all-time greats, the man who’s known far and wide simply as "The GOAT." Episode 177 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast is a perfect time to catch up with Darren Warth of Iowa Smokey D’s BBQ after his landmark 100th KCBS Grand Championship last weekend.

Darren, who's been competing since 2003, talks about regaining his laser-focus over the last month, with three recent Grand Championships to fuel his momentum and confidence entering the championship season this fall, with the American Royal World Series of BBQ which he’s won three times and The Jack Daniels Invitational where he’s a two-time winner. 

We also talk it over with Army vet Sean Young, founder and president of Mission Zero Hundred Hours, an organization to help reduce suicide and stress among veterans who have PTSD and they do it through BBQ. Sean, the pitmaster from KCBS team Risky Brisket (world-fifth-ranked in Ribs), talks about the organization and a big event coming up later this fall pairing some of BBQ’s top pitmasters with veterans in a team format.
