The Author
Sean Poage is a historical fiction writer from Portland, Maine in the U.S. Travelling the world to see history up close for Sean, has been a long-time privilege. He grew up moving around all over the place with his family. Leaving High school with no career path or any idea of what he wanted to do in life, just like so many of us at that age, he joined the US Army. He served in the Military Police, he worked in law enforcement, field training and undercover drug investigations. His duties took him to Germany, Honduras, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Cuba just to name a few of the places. After serving several years he returned to civvy street working as a police officer in Florida as a patrolman, SWAT officer and gang investigator. Like the army these roles were physically challenging and after obtaining a BSc in Computer Networking Sean quietly transferred to the world of computing and is proud to call himself a computer geek or nerd. A return as an Army Reserve saw him back in Iraq, the second time as an investigator and the last time as a trainer supporting the Iraqi Police, Federal Police and Army in handling bomb scene investigations especially around IEDs.
Today Sean’s life is a little quieter, the only dangerous outings he and his family embark on are hiking and scuba diving, but the travelling in pursuit of historical facts and stories are still top of Sean’s adventures and probably will be for the rest of his life. Once a historical buff always a historical buff and as long as Sean is still alive the British King Arthur will carry on reigning.

The Books
The Retreat to Avalon (The Arthurian Age Book One)
Cover: Dmiitry Yahkovsky
Interior Sketches: Luka Cacic
This book is quite a chunky book, so for those of you who love getting your teeth into a good-size book that’s going to take you on a historical journey starting in the 5th century AD then sit up and pay attention. The main story is masterfully told across twelve chapters, the historical detail, facts and what I would refer to as drawings as opposed to illustrations are meticulous, punctilious and painstaking researched all for the full effect of authenticity as you would expect from a book of this quality. However, stripping away the historical ingredients there lies within a phenomal story as I’ve already described as magisterially told that reveals the tale of Britain’s struggles with unmerciful invaders of that period ending, and an epoch of prosperity and tranquillity looming. Rome’s hold on its empire is showing signs of crumbling due to the constant onslaught of Barbarian attacks, internal corruption and civil war. Desperate for allies the last of the great Roman emperors looks to Britain for support particularly from the High King Arthur. Arthur believes the coming war is inevitable, but many within the realm are opposed to a fresh war, dissent and betrayal simmer beneath the surface of an already fractious allegiance between allies within the British kingdom, which could easily put Arthur’s grip on power in peril to the point of becoming undone, something Britain’s foes would easily exploit for their own advantage. Gawain son of Gwyar, a chieftain in northern Britain, is a young warrior craving fame and is swept up in Arthur’s wake as the king raises an army. Has Gawain bitten off more than he can chew by taking his people into one of the greatest battles of a generation? Most of us know that Gawain was known as the Green Knight in Arthurian legend and was one of the noble knights of King Arthur’s realm that sat at the round table.
The retreat to Avalon is the exciting beginning of the historical fiction trilogy The Arthurian Age, introducing readers to the origins of King Arthur and the world he lived and fought for.
The book also gives space to reference points, source information and backgrounds to the characters, who they were, their positions and the roles they had in the Arthurian Legends of King Arthur.
Publishers’ website for both books www.perseidpress.com
The Strife of Camlann (The Arthurian Age Book Two)
Cover and Interior Sketches: Dmitry Yahkovsky
Another book packed full of history, drama, battles, thrills, tension with lots of gallant heroism. The cover gives you an idea as to what to expect. Again, it’s a fair size book clearly Sean Poage doesn’t do slim versions. The epic story is written across seventeen gripping chapters and like in the first book there are parts of the book given over to reference points for you to educate your mind about how life was back then, plus a little bit of background to the characters and the sources he has drawn upon to compile this fabled blockbuster of a series. But to give you a quick heads up to set the scene for you King Arthur’s men have returned to Britain to keep the peace between the fractious allies across the land. Gawain is war fatigued he wants to start a family and forget about the war, but he carries a heavy burden, an oath to maintain a terrible lie, is it a lie though? Looming Conflicts continue to erode what peace there is in the land. The course of history, the future of the Britons will be determined at Camlann.
Three Wicked Revelations
(The Arthurian Age Book Three- Coming shortly)
The Storyline to this book I’m sure is going to be equally as powerful, if not more with perhaps closure to some of the events that have taken place in the previous two books. Book 3 is a prequal to book 1. Book 1 starts when Arthur is already king and preparing for war in Gaul. Book 3 goes back to the beginning of Britain’s independence from Rome and through Arthur’s life up to book 1. I understand that Sean had to do it this way because of an unexpected publisher’s request to make the series a trilogy. Some of the background details in books 1 and 2 are explained in book 3.
Hengist is a novella coming out in November 2023. It’s based on the thesis by JRR Tolkien that the first Anglo- Saxon king in Britain, Hengist, is the same person described in Beowwulf and The Finnsburgh Fragment. Sean builds a story around his thesis to show hoe Hengist may have come to Britain in the first place, and how it led to conflict with Vortigern and Arthur.
Truly these books are an unparalleled read.

The Author
Jason King was born in Michigan but has lived at a medley of places across the U.S. Throughout his adult years he has done a variety of jobs, currently as he so succinctly puts it slinging coffees and sarcasms at the local Tim Horton’s coffee chain as a side-hobby. Some side-hobby I say. Jason served in the US Airforce, based at Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina, where he served as a Readiness Specialist. While there he met his now wife Beth (Joanne Elizabeth). However, at the time Beth was betrothed to a friend of his and it wasn’t until years later that through Facebook they reconnected, fate and destiny springs to mind here. Throughout his service years Jason served abroad and earned two associate degrees. But for Jason as throughout all his life, the passion and love of reading and writing is what sustained him as a youth and still so to this very day, perhaps more so now as he follows his holy grail of being a renowned author respected both by the public and peers in the profession. So, let’s turn to his book.
Check out our video about it here!
The Book
The book was initially published on Amazon in February 2022, it’s a fair size book of 588 pages. The story is creatively and imaginatively written by Jason and to those superlatives you must add exquisite style and grammar. The narrative is told over 24 chapters of reasonably equal length. The subject matter within the confines of the pages tells the story of superheroes and normal people alike who possess exceptional abilities (Metahumans) to deal with loss, challenges, fears and anger issues, it also talks about the lengths some people will go to in order to control others, for me these are the narcissist characters that are extremely head strong with grit and determination routed into their characteristic makeup to achieve their aims and goals.
Delving further into the book you come across the trouble-shooters, assorted characters that when you look at their characteristics you would assume where everyday folk that you meet on the street, but they are characters who can kick-ass and get the job done, whatever’s necessary to protect the status-quo of the world.
The main character Thomas Brody alias code-name Shocking Blue, Jason King sets up as one of the Metahumans a newly identified class of humanity who are beginning to play a more notable role in society, despite being around in human history for some considerable time, albeit in small numbers, the metahumans are coming to the fore. The characters and their mannerisms interact extremely well with each other as they rub side by side in the tense, action filled, gripping plot. As I would expect from an author of Jason king’s ability the chapters are dotted with twists, turns, the unexpected and sit of your pants thrills and spills.
What a great book, it had me hooked right from the impressive start.
Thank you, Jason, for giving me this wonderful opportunity to talk to you about your book The Puppet Show.

The Author
Robert Leet lives with his wife in Western Massachusetts in the US surrounded by a wildlife sanctuary. The natural world and all it has to offer is very important to him and the fight to protect that sphere from man’s destructive ways is a fight he believes is well worth championing to preserve what we have today is around in the future for the younger generation to enjoy just as much as we do now.
Robert Leet has been a structural engineer for some considerable time, a career he thoroughly enjoyed and continues to do so right up to the present day, so far, he’s been responsible for the design of hundreds of buildings. A structural engineer with a mathematical analytical brain writing books! Well, you might think that odd, I did at first, but when you take a closer look at Roberts background particularly his mother’s influence on him as a young child growing up in the states in the 50s and 60s you start to see his love of books stems from his mother’s own enthusiasm for literature who always made sure books where a part of everyday family life. As a child he read books that took the creative side of his brain to the world of Greek and Norse gods as well as the heroes that came with them. Summer holidays were spent sitting in the cab of his father’s furniture truck criss-crossing America and invariably Robert would have his nose buried in a book to alleviate the boredom of the long hours spent couped up in father’s cab. Robert remembers that back in those days there where no interstate highways and America was in the grips of racial segregation with many states especially the southern states adopting the Jim Crow Laws, ‘Jim Crow’ being a pejorative term for an African American. The books he read as a young child and what he saw and witnessed growing up through academia and his professional career path has shaped the Robert Leet we see today. It’s a pity he didn’t feel confident enough to write his books until recently, but thank goodness he did, for when you read them you ‘ll see a lot of there background comes from his own background just like many authors do drawing upon their own experiences in life.
So, let’s turn to the books.

The Books
Timewise
This book is 400 pages of page-turning sequences and events that will crab the attention of all you science and time fiction addicts. The story is divided into 31 chapters that perfectly reveal the plot at various junctures as the author transports you to perilous places. The book is rife with tension, conflict and suspicion just like a novel of this nature should be. Ron Larsen the main character is a modest, self-effacing teenager with little ambition in life apart from earning some pocket money from his chess matches. Regina Russo is an aberrant physicist of renowned beauty and decadence with whom he develops a loving relationship. As that bond develops Regina takes on the role of mentor and entices Ron on a journey of discovery of what time is, but more importantly of what time is not. As they plummet into unchartered waters with experiments that are too dangerous to be revealed, they find themselves enmeshed in all sorts of situations. Fearing discovery as to their searchings they are compelled into secrecy, but the battles they have with a rogue FBI agent who considers them to be state terrorists really does muddy the waters, but this aspect of the story enhances the overall conspiracy buried within the pages.
For me the brilliance of the storyline along with the creative writing Robert Leet has adopted leaves me with nothing more to say, but ‘A job well done and executed.’
Resonant
This is the second book Robert Leet has written and it is in some ways very different to his first book Timewise which he planned several years beforehand. Resonant is a smaller book with the story been written very concisely in 24 Chapters and just over 200 pages. When you look at the introduction Robert Leet reiterates the concept of Timewise and that it tackled a subject Richard Feynman called the only inscrutable problem in Quantum Physics, namely making sense of the two-slit experiment. In Resonant he daringly examines another compulsive area in science which evolves around how reality aligns itself in levels of scale that oddly enough are divorced from each other. From small to large you have the various scientific fields of Quantum, Relativistic, Newtonian, Planetary, Astro physics alongside chemistry and biology. Now we all know each scientific area has its own origin and thinking but can they be viewed multilaterally as a seamless existence for the common good.
This conceptual visualisation is told through the eyes of an aging mathematician, an inner circle of friends, humpback whale language, nature of numbers, structure of matter, and conflicts with the US Navy and the whales themselves. Resonant is a mind-blowing book that stands on its own, cleverly written and extremely interesting to read.

I’m extremely thankful to Robert for giving me this wonderful opportunity to interview him about his books which I found thoroughly absorbing. When I first looked at them, I thought this is an author I sincerely hope I get to interview, so when he accepted my invitation, I was over the moon, and I must confess I have loved working with him to create this podcast.
Thanks Robert.

Dr Penny Clauss known as P.Clauss in the writing fraternity, is a veterinary surgeon from Dallas, Texas. As a child she loved reading books, so much so she would create stories in her head but keep them there, thinking that no one would be interested in her tales. How wrong she was. It wasn’t until years later that with encouragement from her husband David, a clockwork master, that she finally plucked up the courage to publish her writings. Let’s just say thank goodness she did, for her books are beautifully manuscripted with intriguing and at times spine-tingling thoughts and storylines. Penny has dipped her toe into various genres from illustrated children’s books to Christian Devotionals and lately Sci-Fi and dark fantasy.

Cat Hunters
This stunning exhilarating book I found gripping from start to finish, the forty-four chapters all pack powerful punches as the story reveals itself. The plot is set in bygone times with the fall of mankind when a great technological civilization folded, those that remain turn to non-human predators led by Cat-kind in order to survive. Humans no longer hunts cats, but hunts with them instead just to exist. Five unequivocal tribes co-exist, but to ensure peace is maintained between the tribes and that lands and resources are fairly apportioned the Hunter Tribe system is configured. Each of the five tribes has a spiritual leader elected to the Council of Spirits, for the Cat Hunters this is Kilala a young woman whose past has shown a deep bond with all cat-kind coupled with a strong ability to command the Sentinels. Despite her strong credentials for the role ahead of her Kilala still needs the support of a strong mentor to ensure she delivers due diligence with the powers she has acquired, as those powers are unknown and untested. Kilala has friends but equally she has treacherous enemies to contend with, enemies who are eager to see the Hunter Tribe system destroyed with the sole purpose of keeping autonomous ruling power for themselves. Can Kilala save the tribes from the reign of chaos and upheaval so that all who live in the Land of Ritigabid can do so peacefully. The other Hunter tribes are Dog, Bear, Eagle and Snake.
What a riveting book.
The Cloud Rider series
These books exist in a world far into the galaxy among ancient barriers of toxic clouds.
The Underlands Revealed- Book 1
In a world far into the galaxy, are two lands divided by an ancient barrier of toxic clouds, the Overlands and the Underlands. Centuries have passed since the genesis of the toxic cloud layer. The overlanders have no concept or knowledge of those beneath the clouds as the Underlanders struggle to live in a land of shadow and poison. An ancient prophecy told of a Reunitor that would be given the means and comprehension to free the lands of the toxic barrier and reunite the people would be gratified. Ka’star is a reckless narcissist young prince from one of the Overland Mountain top Kingdoms. Faced with an unexpected change to his life Ka’star finds himself in the Underlands with no way back to his kingdom. After struggling to adjust to his new life he realises he has a destiny beyond anything he had ever dreamed. Ailyean, the prophetess of the Underlands believes that the Reunitor has come, but when Ka’star is revealed as the Reunitor she’s baffled as to the creator’s choice, nevertheless she’s determined to see the prophecy of the reunification of the people and the lands fulfilled as had previously been foretold.
The Overlands Visited – Book 2
From the Overlands Mountain top Kingdoms to the clans of the Underlands, the pieces for an ancient power scattered throughout the Lands are brought together to fulfil the centuries old prophecy. Ka’star and Ailyean, along with their companions, are poised to complete their destiny. But a shadow hovers over their impending victory as both Ka’star and Ailyean find that their places of birth have been betrayed and their people oppressed. They come to realize that powers are in motion to threaten the anticipated joy of the removal of an ancient barrier and the freedom of the newly reunited land.
Mysteries Revealed – Book 3
The toxic cloud barrier has gone, the people of the Overlands and the Underlands are free to reunite. But not if the destroyer has his way. Determined to prevent reunification, he unleashes an evil arsenal…
War is on the Horizon, confusion intensifies, some of the Overlander Kingdoms are ready to invade the Underlander’s lands who are ill-prepared, doubts swirl around Ka ’star’s authenticity as the Reunitor as fresh Overlander claims immerge re the legitimacy of another Reunitor being the bona fide Reunitor. Old mysteries are answered but fresh ones appear, will the two lands reunite in this epic concluding finale of the Cloud Riders series, or has Dr Penny allowed herself enough wriggle room to write book 4 of this breath-taking and perplexing series.

The Author
Will Stebbings was keen to point out that he was born at a very early age, weren’t we all is my response to his opening line about himself. This satirical comical tone is very much in evidence throughout all of his books, it becomes natural to him, probably because he’s had years to hone his dry acerbic wit to a fine art. (Grumpy old man living with a delightful lady Wife) would probably be the sign above his front door in order to ward off unwanted personages. He was born in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, a small town on the East Coast of England, where he was raised by what he proudly describes as working-class parents along with three other siblings. In 1960 he passed the eleven plus exams that entitled him to attend the all-boys King Edward VII grammar school which he left five years later with six O levels. His early working life was varied but he would describe those days as lacking in excitement. In 1977 he was made redundant and was forced as he so ardently puts it to seek employment in the computer industry, an industry albeit with numerous employers saw him through to retirement in 2013.
Coincidently in the same year that he was made redundant (1977)) he married Yvonne and moved to Swaffham and then in 1979 to Little Melton outside of Norwich. In 1983, he and his wife Yvonne moved to an idyllic village in Rutland an area of the UK renowned for its natural wildlife and countryside, and to this day they still live there. Will has two sons David, married with two children lives in Sheffield where he has his own business, and John who lives a little closer to home is a professional jazz musician who performs with several bands including his own Jay Stebb Jazz Quartet. He has published books on jazz tuition. Yvonne his wife has also published work in her own name around illustrated stories for pre-school children.

The Books
There are Seven books in the collection, three stand alone and four that make up The Mark Barker chronicles (Quadrilogy)
Let’s start with the Mark Barker series:
Off the Mark
The story is set in Norfolk in the 1960s and evolves around the experiences in life of Mark Barker the main protagonist who is sixteen and as just left school. The story starts with his last day at school and all the good-byes followed by his ride back home on his clapped-out old bike. The year is 1965 and like many young teenagers of that period and age range he had no clear path as to what to do with the rest of his life. Like most sixteen-year-olds with no or little experience with the adult world or with girls, Mark over the summer months sets out for himself four objectives to be achieved and they are:
Having accomplished his targets, the story opens to reveal all his exploits of how he goes about executing his future aspirations from his first day at work prior to modern technology to his many attempts to engage with girls. Mark a shy sensitive boy from a working -class background fumbles his way around the daunting world of women as his attraction to the wrong type of women and ill-judged blind dates get him nowhere. For many this first book in the series will set the groundwork for the other books that follow which complete the series mapping Marks Barker’s life out until almost the present day. Again, for many this series of books will be a trip down memory lane and a lot of us will be able to identify with so many of the characters that feature here. What, is dominant throughout the books is the humour, the jokes, of which Mark relies on so heavily to get him through all his exploits, affairs and life in general.
Further Off the Mark
This amusing Sequel to Off the Mark, finds Mark Barker who’s now nineteen has moved on from his innocent awkward days but yet his dalliances with young lady’s ranges from woeful, disastrous, again ill-judged and mis-timed to occasionally promising, and when you read the book you can’t but feel that Mark is developing a penchant for older women with whom he feels more comfortable as he adopts a more liberal approach to his sexual desires.
The story also reveals Mark’s career in the office where he works faltering, his frustrations are quite apparent, and he starts to look for new opportunities with the new departments. The Disco scene which was so prevalent in the seventies is very much in evidence in the storyline as Mark an avid Soul lover with all his treasured vinyl records DJs at various nightclubs as a means of getting out to meet people in particular young girls. Again, many of us will resonate with the characters and the storyline especially for guys Mark’s trouble with his cars, for as we all know in those days cars where badly made and after a few years on the road they were nothing but glorified rust-buckets that required an awful amount of patching up. There was nothing more embarrassing when going out on a date the car would breakdown or parts would fall off on the road as you drove from A to B. The book for many will be a great stroll down memory lane. For me the book is full of humour, and I particularly laughed at the story of the young hippy lady trying to entice Mark to partake in some good old weed. Al the chapters in the book each have a heading relating to a sixty’s soul record representing the contents within.
Completely Off the Mark
This is the third book that the author wrote, and it tells the story of Mark Barker’s journey in life from 1971 a young twenty-five-year-old to 2016 Mark now retired in his sixties. The book is predominately set in the 1970s the era of hot pants, flares, Oxford Bags, disco music and power cuts due to the miners’ strikes in the UK then. Mark is in the doldrums, his relationships with women are very much hit and miss, his Job prospects as a computer programmer are tenuous and of course more trouble besets him with his bad choice cars which keep falling apart a bit like his own life. Will things settle and turn around for Mark Barber, I’ll let you the reader find that out for yourselves. Again, the title headings of the chapters within this book are linked to soul records of the sixties and seventies.
Having looked at this series I can’t but wonder how much of the character of Mark Barker is the author himself really reliving his own like through the characteristics he gave the protagonist Mark. Hmm…
Mark’s out of Eleven.
Now, oddly enough despite this being the fourth book in the series that Will Stebbings wrote, it’s the prequal to the entire series, why you might well ask? Well having chatted to Will about this he decided having written the previous three books he felt the Life off Mark Barker was incomplete, so he wrote this book which covers Mark’s young teenage years at secondary school from the age of eleven through to sixteen. Mark has won a place at the all-boys Parkside grammar school. Having two sons at an English grammar school places huge financial constraints on his parents who are hard working-class folk. Mark must wear his older brother’s hand me down school uniform, while those around him turn up at the start of term with brand new Uniforms. The school’s rigid, strict and somewhat draconian discipline rules which are pretty much in keeping with that 1960s era are challenging for Mark Barker, a sensitive young character. The teaching methods and practices of some of the teachers are highly dubious to say the least but they were attitudes and ways that were deemed acceptable at the time, now-a-days those standards would be questionable if not banned outright. With it being an all-boys school at the start Mark finds that easy to get a long with, but when puberty issues kick in and having no girls at school or very much in his life Mark starts to see life from a different perspective and doesn’t like most boys of his age back then adjust easily, he’s apprehensive and nervous around the opposite sex. It’s a great book that will take many readers back in time but the humour that Will Stebbings has instilled in the pages is well worth exploring.
The Stand-Alone Books Are
Tess of the Dormobiles
Theresa Finbow is an author who has taken a cottage in a quiet area of Norfolk while she starts work on her next novel which is to be called Tess of the Dormobiles. The central character Tess is an adventurous woman to get into Tess’ way of thinking Theresa Finbow needs to model herself on her character. However, there are pitfalls with this approach which inevitably brings her into contact with some unsavoury characters like Billy the nearby farmer worker who is prone to fits of violent outburst and is embroiled or shall I say implicated in the death of his ex-girlfriend. Having faced an unpleasant scenario with Billy. Theresa asks her estranged husband to rescue her from this precarious situation she landed herself in, but that time is limited, and her husband soon returns to his own life, leaving Theresa to face her demons alone and that includes Billy’s older brother who is more ruthless and sinister. It’s an eye-catching read, with many twists to the plot. I enjoyed it, the characters blend very well together and really makes the plot realistic and tense as a book of this nature should be.
A Bang on the Head
What an endearing story line. Rob Lennard a is playing football in his back garden with his grandson Barney when he’s unfortunate enough to slip backwards and bang his head. The book starts off with Rob waking up in hospital completely unaware as to what has happened and oblivious to the fact that he has been in a coma for two days at least. Having gone through various tests to make sure he’s physically fine the doctor’s discharge him. The outcome of this event leaves him with his immediate short-term memory intact, plus his memory when he was twenty when he was dating Kate who died in a car accident. The years in-between are a complete blank to him, he doesn’t even recognise his own wife Julie of some considerable time nor his children and grandchildren. It takes Rob to adjust to modern life as all that has been wiped away, the only thing that he remembers is Kate the girl he planned to marry when he was in hie twenties. It takes a car journey to jolt his lost memory to be restored, the outcome has a severe knock-on affect for him. If you want to know what happened, well you’re going to have to read the book. A great story Will.
Happy is a Grumpy Road
I loved this story of Ralph a grumpy old gentleman who having lost his wife Alice five years ago, having spent a lifetime together is very much stuck in both in the past and in his ways. His daughter in law suggests that he registers with some dating app platforms to see if he could hook-up so to speak, with some ladies of his age range for companionship and may be something else. Reluctant at first, Ralph warms to the idea and registers with one platform to start with. His dates that generally start off in the local coffee shop are interesting to say the least, however the experiences he has on those dates vary enormously from being taken for a ride, being led up the garden path to some of his dates opening his mind to the fact that some of these ladies aren’t quite what he’s expecting. Having had little or no luck with those on this dating app after several months, he decides to register with another dating app to widen his horizons so to speak. The experiences and dalliances he has with each date are entertaining and of course infused with humour which you come to expect from Will Stebbings the author. What I found amusing was the male banter between himself and Jack and old workmate he has reconnected with after many years, there pub gossip over several pints about each of Ralph’s dating encounters is encapsulating and outright hilarious.

The Author
Linda Harkey is a multi-award-winning children’s author from Angel Fire in the Sangre De Christo Mts in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Living on thirty acres ten thousand feet above sea level has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are the stunning scenery, the spectacular wildlife of black bears, mountain cougars and elk for company as well as a cooler mountain climate a welcome blessing from the searing summer heat that scorch the lands below. The disadvantages are your neighbours are not quite on your doorstep to pop in for a coffee and chat unless you’re a cougar or black bear, and local amenities and appointments are good hours’ drive down a mountain road to the nearest community of Taos. The winter snows come early and can last for several months and at times Linda and her husband can be cut off from the world for days on end. However, they are happy living there with their adorable hunting dogs, whom many of the books are based on. This idyllic mountain home has been Linda and Mike’s home for some time now having lived in numerous places across the U.S. and as Linda says, she and Mike and their hunting dogs are at home in the mountains.
Linda is a past teacher and an enthusiastic hunting dog owner for more than 30 years, plus she has spent at least 20 odd years as a volunteer docent at two of Oklahoma’s outstanding museums. Apart from being married to Mike a retired surgical pathologist for more years than she cares to recall, she has two children and three Grandchildren and one great grandchild, plus of course a whole menagerie of German Shorthaired pointers hunting dogs both present and past.

Books
There are nine books in the collection and the general concept behind them all is to help young children transition to chapter books from predominately picture books, but equally have fun reading and learning about animals in their natural habitat as they themselves get up to all sorts of mischief as they go about their daily lives.
My favourite Characters are Zeke the ticked colour coated hunting dog who thought he was a cut above the others in the pack, Tripod the three-legged hunting dog, Deacon who had a penchant for eating books, Chatty the Pheasant Hen, Willie the Crow and Blake Jake, the Turkey, and Rodney the Road Runner.

The Author
Paul Jones was born in Pine Bluff Jefferson County, a small town in the US state of Arkansas that lies to the south of the state capital Little Rock. He was raised by his mother who was a pivotal figure in his life. Today he lives with his wife Candice to whom he has been married to for sixteen years. He has two sons from a previous marriage, Justin and Jordan who as a devoted father mean so much to him, not to mention Brentley his Goddaughter who he dotes on to say the least.
At the age of fifteen Paul left home having completed high school, he served in the US Armed Forces as well as serving as a law enforcement officer and Prison officer. At the age of fifty-eight sees himself as retired with a new full-time passion in his life, writing. If you ask his friends how they see him in relation to cars they’d describe him as a ‘car nurd.’
Paul is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, which is the first intercollegiate African American fraternity. It was initially a literary and social studies club organised in the 1905-1906 school year of Cornell University. Today its aims are, “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind,” aspects that underpin the core of what Paul Jones as a man upholds and believes steadfastly in. Paul has a bachelor’s degree from American Intercontinental University in Criminal Justice, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude (with the highest distinction).
In addition to the books, we are going to chat about in this podcast Paul has written a further two books, Standing Alone and A flavour of Stories. If you want to know more about those books, then you can listen to the previous interview we did in March last year on Webtalkradio.
Paul has received numerous awards throughout his life and most recently the Trafford Publishing Gold Seal of Literary Excellence.
For the purpose of this podcast, we’re going to review the following books.
Check out our video chat here!
Waking Up Jake’s Story Part 1
This is the story of Jake a man who most of us can identify with. For all of us our life story starts with our birth but the journey we take is different for everyone as we face our dreams, aspirations, issues and temptations. All these factors that contribute to who we are for some are based on a deep spiritual background, for others not so. Whether you have a faith or not you’ll still be able to follow, associate with Jake’s journey as he approaches love, marriage and many more trials that we all must face and somehow overcome be that with or without a faith under-pinning our lives.
For me the book is a written play of Jake’s life told through various parts, acts and scenes. Paul has very cleverly partitioned Jake’s junctures of life into those acts or segments which some of you might want to express as chapters. There are eleven sub-headings to this story, for me, ‘Jake the man,’ ‘Fulfilling his Purpose,’ and ‘Keeping his Promises,’ stuck out the most, but don’t let me cloud your judgement here, have a look for yourself and formulate your own opinions.
Waking Up Jake’s Story Part 2
This book as you can figure out is a continuation of Jake’s roller-coaster life, it’s set out in the same fashion as the first book with new storylines and characters to keeping you guessing as to how Jake’s life is going to pan out. The big difference here is that the book is not segmented like in the first book, it’s’ one story that keeps on evolving as you turn the pages.
You may have noticed that I haven’t divulged the actual story/plot to these books here, well that’s deliberate. Why? The simple fact is I want you to find out for yourself by reading the books so as you can enjoy what Paul has to say about Jake’s life. Can you identify with Jake? That’s for you to decide.
Living Life: Poems to Live by
Here we find the author Paul Jones reverting to his love of poetry, it’s a book of poems for people to reflect and live by. The poems are diligently grouped under five headings, those being.
Matters of the Soul
Matters of the Heart
Matters of the Spirit
Matters of Life
Just Matters
For me ‘Walking by Faith’ in ‘Matters of the Spirit’ which started off with the words, ‘
The word tells us to walk
By faith not by sight
Stood out for me. The poems are beautifully composed with simple but poignant message at their heart.
Just When You Thought You Knew
The world isn’t perfect, we all know that, nor are we ourselves perfect. People live contrasting lives, some of those lives evolve around nightmares and difficult childhoods that spill over into adult life, others circumvent fulfilling adventures and there are those arrogant enough to be classified as ‘know it all’s, ‘but do they is the question that needs to be asked. There are those that give help and those that need help. This book which has been majestically written is a collection of life’s stories in all its formats and guises and some of the stories are stories within stories. A book about life through stories that have a hint of rhyme to them. There are fifteen fascinating stories followed towards the end of the book by eight stories within a story, for me ‘The Mind of a Maniac,’ and ‘David’s Dream’ captured my attention.
Well done Paul on writing this eye-catching book.

The Author
Born in the 1940’s, and married for fifty-nine years with four children, John Leslie Wheeler has certainly led a full and varied life. The Gold Coast of Australia where he lives is not only a beautiful part of Australia but the world as well. Throughout his life in the legal profession as a solicitor he witnessed a variety of legal cases both corporate and personal and on reflection he would often recount that behind each outcome there was a person or persons facing a challenging period within their life or lives. Outside of the legal profession John vehemently worked on a voluntary basis to support couples going through marital issues, sometimes the outcome would be positive but equally at times the marital woes where unreconcilable. In each scenarios John would reflect on what was right for all parties concerned and that’s probably why the last Chapter in his book is headed up ‘Love, Marriage and Family.’
John has been a follower of the Catholic faith for a considerable time, having said that it would be fair to say that he doesn’t always take the literal translation of what the church deliberates on. Right from childhood he has conducted his own research to what he believes is the true meaning within the biblical scriptures and is not averse to holding the church to account for its version of biblical contents despite finding himself at times seated in the unpopular pews. This book of how to pray is really a life’s work put into twenty-seven chapters in one thought-provoking book.
Check out our video chat here!
The Book
This book has been written for those that are searching for a better more inconsequential mastery to understanding how to pray to develop a closer relationship with God and his message to man. The author puts it in a simpler format, ‘the book is a prayer journey from sinner to saint for anyone who is on a journey.’
For me the book has many facets, ideologies for the reader to contemplate all around the art of insightful prayer to enrich a person’s daily life no matter what challenges, temptations or Joys lie in their path that day. The biblical references which can be found throughout the book are not directly quoted, they are numbered within the text and in the end notes towards the end of the book you’ll see those numbers set against a scriptural passage so it’s it to you the reader to go look them up and for me form your own opinions. I think you’ll find them poignant and enhance what the author is saying.
There are twenty-seven chapters teeming with interesting concepts and thoughts; for the purpose of this podcast, we’ll focus on eight chapters to give you the reader a flavour of what John Wheeler is talking about, those chapters are listed below, if you want to know what’s in the other nineteen chapters well! You’ll have to get a copy of the book.
These are the chapters for me that stood out above all others, watch the video or listen to the audio version to see what was said.
Prayer is a journey.
When and where should we pray.
Listening to God in prayer.
Trusting God.
Prayer for our enemies.
Prayer for righting injustices in the environment.
Working in the garden.
The life journey

The Author
Keith Vincent is a retired accountant living in Arizona in U.S. He originated from the city of Cleveland in the state of Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie one of the five lakes that makes up what is known as, ‘The Great Lakes.’ Apart from Cleveland he’s lived in Massachusetts, New York, Japan, but it’s Arizona that he regards as his home territory, a place where he began pursuing his philosophical passions.
Quantum Physics and how it relates to the human condition has over the years simply fascinated him especially how two particles can be in two states at the same time – referring to ‘Matter’ in its various guises made up of tiny particles – not any other definition. For Keith he has concluded that mankind has a long way to go prior to advancing into what man thinks he is. Keith has drawn his conclusions here on the realities of economics, sociology, and political ideologies verse what man/people assume those conditions are.
Growing up with a supportive mother who encouraged his imaginary thoughts was in words extremely useful, for we all need people who believe in us. When you look at Keith’s life you begin to wonder just how much it was shaped, like most of us, by those around us and what we read while growing up. It’s fair to say we all have our favourite people, and authors, for Keith that was a Cherokee shaman, spiritual and general fiction namely written by Heinlein, Orwell, Ayn Rand, Karl Marx, Engels and Tsun Tsu. A real mix of genres and Philosophies, dare I say not your average reader.
In to this mix of what I see as a quizzical mindset, you add the world of accountancy, why this profession you may well ask; well for Keith it was a sense of being absolute, settled, but it brought him a sense of freedom that allowed him to contemplate a different side to life away from a scientific approach but yet close enough for someone who had an analytic mind buzzing around in their head to focus, digest and consider, and it is all these processes that forms the fundamental basis of Keith’s book, so let’s turn our attention to what lurks between the pages of this extraordinary book which I have to say made me stop and think at times.
Check out our video chat here!
The Book
This stunning highly imaginative story is about an updated version of a replicator. Now for those of you who were die-hard fans of Star Trek you would have seen and heard about the machine on board, it was initially there to synthesize meals on demand, but in later series much larger non-food items appeared. When you look up the meaning of replicator, you’ll get a text that will say- a replicator (evolution unit), the theoretical basic unit of evolution in the gene-centred view of evolution. Replicator(self-replication) a component that facilitates self-replication. DNA replication, the process of producing two identical copies from one original DNA molecule.
In this book Keith Vincent has uplifted this ideology and given the task of developing a replicator, which in the book is referred to as a STrelpicator to Peter Harris a young and upcoming nerdy physicist with big inventory concepts. After an arduous journey the STreplicator is ready for the public domain, its capabilities are far reaching and not everybody including the US government and large corporations are ready for this revolutionary machine.
Peter Harris’ STreplicator is a machine that creates items for mankind’s survival by using sub-atomic particles. The machine is highly environmentally efficient so much, so it appears to be a miracle of modern science. The STrepicator is capable of feeding and clothing mankind without adding to an already environmentally challenged world.
Desperate to share his breakthrough, Peter assembles a highly effective team to circumvent the stumbling blocks of creating powerful enemies from within both the political and corporate worlds who see his creation as a real challenge to their very existence despite all the environmental benefits.
The twists and turns are proportionately distributed throughout the book, like any good book worth its salt should be.
Well done, Keith for a gripping read.
In the podcast to give you all a flavour of what can be found lurking between the pages we’re going to talk about the following chapters.
Chapters 8,10,12,28,31,32,33,43,50,51 and 60.

The Author
Former U.S. Congressman and Governor for North Carolina.
Jim Martin is a Princeton PhD organic chemist who taught at prestigious Davidson College, his alma mater. During that time, he played principal tuba in the Charlotte Symphony and officiated high school football. Drawn to politics as a precinct worker, he was elected three times as county commissioner, six times to the U.S. Congress, and twice as Governor of North Carolina. After twenty-six years of public service, he returned to his scientific roots in private life to serve as vice president of medical research at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He and his wife Dottie have three children and five grandchildren.
The Book
Revelation through science is written for the educated non-scientist who maybe troubled by apparent conflicts between science and religion. Are science and faith incompatible? Astronomers, physicists, and biologists have now shown that the more deeply science probes nature, the more it reveals evidence pointing us to God. After reviewing concepts from those fields, Revelation Through Science adds new material from chemistry. It describes organic structures that are profoundly vital for life, yet too complex for self-assembly without some guiding principle. It should lift the burden from believers and seekers to realise that science is not the enemy of faith.
We had a wonderful discussion, you can view it here:
There are nineteen chapters in this thought-provoking book, split into four parts. The purpose of this podcast interview is to give you an insight to the overall theme Dr Martin is talking about; enough to whet your appetite for you to feel the need to investigate in full his viewpoints on the subject matter of science verses religion from an organic chemist’s approach. So, we’re going to dip in and out of various sections which will intrigue you at best like it did me when I first looked at the book.
Part one
Chapter one: Creation and the Bible. Here Dr Martin touches on areas like Theological Reflections.
Chapter four: Revelation Through Astronomy, where topics like, When Time Began, The Dark Ages, Serendipitous Echo of the Big Bang, and Quasar and Black Holes are touched upon.
Part Two
Chapter Seven: Charles Darwin (1806-1882). Here Dr Martin reflects on The Theory of Evolution, Domestic Darwin, Herbert Spencer and Francis Galton, and much more.
Chapter Nine: The scopes “Monkey Trial.” Here Dr Martin discusses Dayton, Tennessee, 1925.
Part Three
Chapter Eleven: The Age of the Earth, where Dr Martin speaks about Geologic Time as well as Earth is not Ageless, But Very Old along with other intriguing topics.
Chapter Fourteen: Revelation Through Organic Chemistry, covering such areas as Hydrogen bonding with both Water and Hydrogen, plus Optical Activity and Louis Pasteur.
Part Four
Chapter Seventeen: Are we Alone? Here Dr Martin raises some interesting topical debates like, Who’s on Mars? Searching for Extra-Terrestrials, Suitable Planets and Drake’s Formula.
This is a fascinating book, it’s not a bedtime read, it was never intended to be that it’s a thought-provoking book and you may not agree with all of Dr Martin’s thinking’s, points of view, well that’s fine! For the book was written to bring about conscientious debate. Could complex life possibly arise by unguided chance?
