    The Book

This book is all about Tuesday, a Cocker Bichon, Becky had in her life for fourteen and a half years, right from a puppy to her final days. The story of Tuesday’s life is depicted in Rhyme, backed up by stunning photos, all designed to reflect how a dog can bring so much joy and pleasure to a person.

Becky wrote this story as part of her healing process after Tuesday left her side. For Becky, Tuesday wasn’t simply a dog that was in her life as a dog, she was a life companion, a friend and together they created so many happy events that meant so much to both.

The book is aimed at Children, showing them that a dog isn’t just a dog, but a being that can bring so much fun, love and enjoyment into a person’s life, be they a child or an adult.

    The Books

    Daisy

Daisy is a touching family saga that transcends a century starting in 1887 with the birth of Daisy to a single mother in London’s poverty ridden slums. With the stigma of being an illegitimate child, Daisy’s start in life was tough not only for her but for her mother. Despite the harsh reality of dockland life Daisy blossoms but not without uncompromising setbacks. Being a girl back then, life was very much restricted to what society expected, house chores and birthing children under appalling conditions.

The book is set in London UK, Alabama and Harlem in the US. Besides Daisy, it’s the story of several families from both sides of the Atlantic from different cultures, backgrounds, cleverly interwoven to tell a historical story of Black American Slavery, rich snobbery plantation owners, and the harsh life of both Harlem and London’s docklands slums. Yet against this backdrop of austerity and excess wealth, the essence of family, friendship and true love prevails, beautifully told through the eyes of some wonderful strong characters that bring the tales of what went on in those days and how people survived and lived through turbulent times.

    The Second Daisy

This is the sequel book to Daisy. The first Daisy had a hard start in life. She was born in the slums of London in 1887, to an impoverished unmarried mother with all the stigma her status in life brought. A hundred years later, we meet her namesake, the second Daisy. In many ways life for this Daisy is a lot easier, but in many ways the two women are very similar in character, but this Daisy is a woman of colour. Again, the story shuttles back and forth between London, Alabama and Harlem in New York in the US, but we’re in the 1980’s. The characters from the first book still have a significant role to play but we’ve moved on to the next generation. This Daisy is the daughter of Jeremy who is the son of Samuel and Winifred who left Harlem in 1952 on the boat United States for a better life in London. Theo and Melissa whose families came from the rich plantation owners have also moved to London as have Matty and Ruth who lived with Theo and Melissa back then whose families finally gained their freedom from Black Slavery that was endemic in certain US States at the turn of the nineteen century. The story also brings into play the character Flo, the original Daisy’s daughter, her life as a dressmaker in Artillery Lane a house bought for her by Freddie, who insisted the title deeds be in her name only as collateral for the future. The loss of her first son was a devastating blow, like Masie losing her only daughter in the first book who took in Daisy, the only difference being Flo rebounded and thrived as opposed to Maise taking her own life. Towards the end of the book, we see a grand reunion organised by Melissa back in Harlem reuniting the new generation with the old generation they left behind so that Daisy and her generation get to see the old ones before time takes them. This new Daisy despite still facing racism and equality issues has a brighter future ahead of her, far better than the life Daisy in the first book had to endure and overcome.

    The Ancestor Series

Valentine George (Book One in the series)

Valentine George was an ordinary man, born in extraordinary times. He experienced love, loss and joy, just as we all do, but his life was worth recording. In this novel we follow his story where it began, in the slums of London during Victorian times. Then, he takes us through world wars One and Two and leads us on to the path of the Swinging Sixties.

Lou and Eustace (Book Two in the series)

This tale begins in the late 1800’s and continues through to 1984.

The roaring twenties were in full swing. Now, all the young women and many of the older ones had shortened their skirts, chopped off their long hair, and thrown away their horrible constricting laced corsets. Marcel waves, short bobs, flapper dresses, and the Charleston, quickly became the order of the day.

    The Abandoned Wives Handbook

The pain of abandonment is huge. The partner you loved and cherished for so many years has decided you are no longer required. Past your sell by date. Of no use to them anymore, so tossed out like a piece of garbage. Abandoned with barely a backward glance. To keep this a light-hearted read, each chapter is divided into two letters of the alphabet, rather like a dictionary of distress, something you can dip into at any time. I am not an expert, merely someone who has survived one of life’s great traumas and has come through it as a stronger more resilient person.

    The Author

    Apple PodcastsAndroidRSS

Jude Hayland is a British author born in London but now resides in Winchester a small city down towards the south coast of England. Winchester is known for its medieval Winchester Cathedral, with its 17th-century Morley Library, the Winchester Bible and a Norman crypt. The Great Hall of Winchester Castle houses the medieval round table linked to King Arthur. Jude also spends a considerable amount of time on the Mediterranean island of Crete where her family have a home. Learning modern Greek, is shall we say, proving challenging at best.

Having graduated in English Literature Jude began writing short stories for Women’s magazines at the same time as teaching at secondary schools in the 1980s-1990s. She was published extensively in the UK and internationally for many years. After graduating with an M.A. with Distinction in Creative Writing, Jude began to explore writing full length fiction stories and to date has published three novels which will feature in this podcast. A fourth book is close to being completed. With all that is going on in her life, Jude still finds time to teach English and Drama on a part-time bases, as well as taking creative writing courses and workshops for budding authors. Jude’s novels have been well received with book groups and those who like the genre fields of Literary/commerce crossover, families and relationships.

    The Books

    Miller Street SW22

A story of loss, love, guilt and ultimately hope and redemption.

This book is the third book Jude has written and was published in January 2021. The Book shadows the lives of five neighbours that live on Miller St in London SW22. Coincidentally all the neighbours moved into the street in the autumn of 2005 primarily for a new start in life. The main Characters are Catherine Wells, Sam and Lydia Cough, Violet Lawrence and Frances Chater. The daily lives of these unique and individual characters, all with their own inner strengths and faults is fascinating to watch as the various events unfold leading up to a centenary street party. As the deadline for the street party nears and the committee Frances cagouled them to form using her domineering personality takes hold; relationships between the five begin to immerge. What they discover about themselves and how the past has played a part for some of them in getting to where they are, and what inconceivable destinies await them in the future is truly breath-taking. For me this book has all the tension needed to keep the reader turning the pages. As expected from Jude Hayland it’s beautifully written with tenderness and thrills all built in.

    The Legacy of Mr Jarvis

A book of intrigue, deception and deceit. Who was Freddie Jarvis? And what was the relationship between this man and Mary’s mother Ida.

This book is the second book Jude has written; it was published in October 2019. The storyline starts with, for Mary the main protagonist a sudden house move from London to the South Coast, in 1966, but why? Mary who’s twelve at the time, doesn’t question her parents Jack and Ida’s reason for this move. But, forty years later after her mother’s death Mary decides to confront her suspicions. For, throughout her entire life she was led to believe that she was an only child, or was she? What Mary uncovers leaves her profoundly affected, the deceit and deception is traumatising, half-sisters? Again, who was Freddie Jarvis and was she, Mary, part of his legacy.

    Counting The Ways

Counting the Waves dissects the fears that cloud our lives from failure, loss, regret and transience. The story is set in both London and an idyllic Mediterranean island in the 1980’s at a time when the talk of money particularly in London was all the fashion. Grace Barnes doesn’t fit into that Yuppie society and is passionate about reading. Archie Copeland is of a similar mindset, so much so the two of them get married. Hester, Grace’s mother seeing that her daughter is about to get married reflects on her own dysfunctional marriage to Fergus who left thirty years ago to live a simple remote life on a Welch hillside. However, his appearance at Grace’s wedding opens old feelings. For a short spell, Fergus’ reincarnation appears to have an influence on Grace, but then her own relationship with Archie wains due to all kinds of issues. A holiday to the Mediterranean on the surface appears to be the answer for Grace and Archie. But his disappearance casts a whole different outlook to their marriage, what Grace uncovers about Archie as she tries to find him is not what she expected to find. Archie meanwhile is forced to confront years of self-delusion, which is hard for him, but his absence forces Grace, Hester and Fergus to face up to their own fractured relationships. This is a book with many twists and turns like any good book should be.

Peter Massam is a British author who lives in a stunning part of the United Kingdom, Witney. Witney is a market town on the river Windrush sitting in the idyllic Cotswolds close to the city of Oxford which is world renowned for the University of Oxford.

Peter’s childhood days were filled with fun. For, coming from a large family with twenty-seven cousins nearby to keep him well occupied, life was adventurous and could never be described as boring. The stories from those halcyon days are often retold at family reunions as they should be.

For Peter working life brought many varied opportunities. He taught for ten years, a period on his life that he thoroughly enjoyed as he broadened young minds. The business world eventually beckoned, and he pursued different avenues to broaden his own mind thus gaining valuable experiences which have stood him in good stead over the years.

As an author Peter, between 2019 and 2021 published two collections in Poetry before moving on to write the ‘Learning Experience Trilogy.’ It is this trilogy that we will be looking at over the course of two podcast interviews.

Check out our video chat here!

    Quirky Story

Six people set off along a U-shaped valley, past giant groundsel and lobelia. Fog descends, light failing, tin hut refuge nowhere in sight. Up rocky slope I clamber to discover a corrie lake with hut on its shoreline. Everybody else hunkers down in sleeping bags leaving me to cook. Washing up in the ice-cold water, I looked up. Sky clears to reveal Halley’s Comet streaking above Mt Kenya’s peak.

    The Books

In the last interview with Peter, we talked about the first two books in ‘The Learning Experience Trilogy.’ Those books were ‘Nipper’ and ‘Moose Conquering Fear.’ If you want to know more about them, then have a look at Peter’s first Podcast. These books track a lifetime journey of learning experiences from childhood encounters through coming of age to conquering fear, which culminates in a new appreciation of the power of the mind in the realms if communication, pain relief and self-help healing and preservation, all told through the main character George.

    Know Your Mind

The third and final book of the series. As I said in the last interview this book is a real life-changer, as any final book in a series should be.

This book deviates from George’s every day’s interactions and focuses on the remarkable correlation between the body and its perplexing mind. We can all associate with mind over matter and that a positive mindset is a powerful tool when it comes to facing up to everyday challenges. For George in this book, it’s all about a new philosophical approach to life leading him to see that the body he occupies when cooperating with his inner mind thinking’s, can bring about a different outcome, a more positive conclusion to his existence. He can’t do much about the body he’s inherited but he can influence how his body reacts to different scenarios that come his way. All through proven and yet to be proven scientific methods, technological advances, and philosophies. All to create a different perception of the mind in George’s life that many of us can identify with.

Sky clears to reveal Halley’s Comet streaking above Mt Kenya’s peak.

    The Books

    Nipper

This is the first book in the trilogy, and we are introduced to George the main protagonist throughout the series. The story starts off in the sanctuary of a frugal but loving homestead. For George, his carefree and simple lifestyle is about to change, his days at the local primary school are ending, ‘big school’ is beckoning, and for George like any child that’s a daunting prospect with all the new experiences heading his way, particularly girls young and old. George’s first trip on the school bus to secondary school was an eye-opening encounter that left an indelible mark on him, a mark he carried with him for a considerable period. The storyline in this first book is all about one boy’s view of life being turned upside down and how he started to conquer his fears particularly with how to handle the opposite sex, something all boys of George’s age must face.

    Moose Conquering Fear

The second book in the series, here we find George has moved on in life, he’s about to leave education and transgress to a working life and relationships. Both scenarios for George carry their own fears, does he opt for what he sees as the safer route or again does he conquer his anxieties. For George life is and probably will be all about facing up to his instabilities like most people have to. In this book we see George facing up to life’s upsets, the ill-judged decisions he’s made and the fact he doesn’t appear to learn from his past, both in his personal and business life. I think so many of us can relate to George here especially men, a woman, however, might have a different viewpoint here. Is there a happy ending for George, well that is for me to stay stum and you the readers to find out.

    Know Your Mind

This is the third book in the trilogy which has only just come out. This book will be featured in another interview on Talking Books Show in April 2023. But to whet your appetite regarding this final book in this amazing trilogy I’m prepared to give you a sneak preview as to what is about to be revealed.

This third and final chapter in the trilogy moves on from talking about growing pains from childhood and teenage years through to adulthood all courtesy of George facing fears to exploring the remarkable relationship that exists between the mind and the body and how those correlations climax in a new philosophical viewpoint.

What began as a collection of thoughts is simply breath-taking. We are all aware that we have five senses, but when these senses are subdued to allow a sixth sense to evolve; well, that’s a game- changing occurrence, and that’s what lies in wait between the pages of Peter Massams’ third book. As I say it’s a real game-changer like the last book of a trilogy should be.

She’s a contemporary writer who mainly writes Romantic comedies about strong women, the families who support them, and the men who can’t live without them. Family, friends and good food are at the heart of Peggy’s writing. For her, these three essential ingredients to life are the glue that keeps everything together both in her own life and in her books. All her characters have their own unique characteristics; some have humour while others have a more sinister side to them, but they’ve all got romantic aspirations underpinning they’re existence to bring tense, riveting and imaginative stories that engage with you. The storylines all stem from various topics she has observed in life, death, sibling rivalry, Illness and the need to find true meaningful love.

Growing up as an only child to divorced parents, the characters and the storylines in her books very often reflect the life she would have liked herself, with siblings to love, cherish and spar with.

Romantic suspense and paranormal romance are two genres Peggy has recently ventured into and to say she’s had a ball creating witches, psychics and all things that go bump in the night is a serious understatement. Peggy’s have a blast here everyone.

    The Books

    It’s Witch O’ Clock Somewhere

This is the third book in the Romantic Haunting Series

Twenty years ago, Barstone bad-boy Declan Wolffe, rode out of town on his motorcycle leaving the town that looked down on him and his dysfunctional family, an alcoholic father and a disturbed mother.  His behavioural issues, when you look back, were really cries for help, help that never materialised. The last person he saw in his rear-view mirror was Gigi Gordon the only girl he ever loved.

His return has stoked up memories for the town folk and some of those memories are not favourable, to say the least. Rich, successful, and determined to change the town’s outlook leaves him open to salacious gossip, but what is the real reason for coming back? Is it for the girl, or the glory.

Gigi Gordon is successful in her own right as an accomplished real estate agent running her own business, but who is she really? What about her family background as a tenth-generation witch? Only those closest to her know and understand who she really is. Declan’s return in many ways disrupts her life, the boy who left her heartbroken is back to shake and stir things up. Declan may have plans, but Gigi has plans of her own. The biggest is that of protecting her heart from him.

But what of the witchcraft methods she adopts?

The creative style adopted by Peggy to create this book is breathtaking.

    The Sheriff and the Psychic

The first book in the Renewal Series

Police Psychic Silvestra Coeltrain comes to Renewal a rural community town in Oklahoma to visit Jake and Mabel Adams and to rest and heal from a dramatic year that has left her physically, mentally and emotionally scarred. No sooner has she arrived when her psychic visions rekindle themselves. The visions reveal the deaths of some of the local rancher’s animals. These mysterious deaths are disturbing for the local community.Who and why is behind these killings? Something Caleb Blackbear, the sheriff with part native American Apache blood in his veins, needs to get to the bottom of.

Sheriff Caleb gets himself emotionally involved with this police psychic from New York, which gets both him and Silvestra into unchartered dangerous waters. Getting romantically involved with Silvestra leaves him exposed to unforeseen happenings. For Caleb, Silvestra is an unknown source filled with mysticism and intrigue, but he allows his suspicions to be dictated by his feelings. Not a good plan for it will only lead to heartache. The deaths of local livestock mount up and with each incident occurring the pressure intensifies on Caleb to restore order to the now fractious community. Questions are asked how Caleb knows in advance of these mysterious killings. The answer of course lies with the police physic Silvestra who has received visions of these deaths.

The murder of a prominent rancher’s daughter, Cal’s former lover, complicates matters, and the ensuing outcome leaves Caleb fatally wounded, plus puts Silvestra’s life in danger. However, Silvestra isn’t exactly of such a delicate disposition, which Caleb first imagined. Far from in fact. She’s stood up to far worst in the past, particularly when it comes to high-profile cases she’s been involved with. Fame and tragedy are part of her life, her psychic powers are both a gift and a burden, so much so, she fears falling in love with anybody particularly Caleb. Love for Silvestra is always connected with unbearable pain and loss.

This is a very powerful book imaginatively told.

Wayne Edwards is a born and bred Montanan. He grew up in the rural town of Denton in the US State of Montana where he graduated in 1971 from Denton High School. Wayne attended Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating with a per- Med/Chemistry degree in 1975. He then received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Washington in 1980, returning to Bozeman where he practiced Dentistry for six years.

In 1986, he returned to his hometown as a third-generation banker of the independent family-owned agricultural bank started by his grandfather in 1929.

Typical of the small-town way, when the local high school football coach left shortly before the start of the 1991 season, the former college football player Edwards agreed to serve as the interim head coach at the eight-man football school. The interim designation turned into a highly enjoyable and satisfying six-year stint. This playing and coaching experience served as an inspiration for his creation of the fictional story that is Pacer Coulee Chronicles.

Married for forty-seven years to his college sweetheart, Wayne and Lorinda are now retired from banking and split their time between their homes in Bozeman, Montana and Cave Creek, Arizona. They enjoy spending time with their three daughters and sons-in-law, and their eight grandchildren.

    Quirky Story

Something you’d only see in a small town

The rural small town where I lived and worked had a business district that typical of small towns consisted of only two city blocks. Like most little towns, the usual and customary parking practice was one of angle parking (as opposed to parallel). One day as I was coming out of the bank and about to go across the street to go to the Post Office, a car directly in front of the Post Office was backing out from its angle position into the middle of the street. As I got closer to the moving vehicle, I was surprised to see that nobody was in the car…a headless driver, if you will! As the car began to pick up speed, I could see that it was headed towards another angle-parked car on the opposite side of the street. Fortunately, this incident occurred before I became old and fat, and I was able to chase down the now -increasing-in-speed vehicle and open the driver-side door and jump in. Only after applying the brakes and stopping the runaway car just before it crashed into the other car did I discover the true ‘headless driver’ of the car…it seems that when Mrs Goettel exited the car to enter the Post Office, she didn’t quite get the shift all the way to ‘park’, leaving it in ‘reverse’. The angle to the curb was such was such that the car wouldn’t have moved had her aging Shih Tzu not crawled down from the seat to lay on the driver-side floorboards, thereby depressing the accelerator and ‘driving’ the car!

    The Book

    Buster

This endearing story is for me a bedtime story for parents/grandparents to read to their youngsters. The illustrations by Gina Daws are vivid, magical and engaging for very young imaginations. It’s a simple story of the rural wildlife found in Montana told through twelve animated characters working together to get Buster the black bear out of an embarrassing situation on Bridger Mountain. You have adorable characters like Gabriellle ‘Gabby’ Gopher nosey-know-all, Brutus the grumpy bad-tempered badger, Oliver Wendell Owl lll, the wise old owl, Billy Bob Bobcat a feisty little so and so, and of course Buster the black bear with a penchant for huckleberries, insects and honey.  It’s a cute bedtime read for the little ones.

    Pacer Coulee Chronicles

This exhilarating adventure story is aimed at an upper young adult/ adult audience school students who are passionate about school sports and all the goings on off the field. The book is set in the 1990s in Pacer Coulee a small rural town in Central Montana exposed to all the seasonal wild weather conditions Montana gets. Edna Coffman is the domineering matrix head, who’s used to getting her way, she certainly rules the roost. She’s passionate about sport and with the school’s failing sports achievements she instructs Lester her athletics director to seek coaches for the school’s football and basketball squads. Having hired Luke and Madison, Edna is looking forward to success so that she can hold her head up high in the community especially when it comes to the school’s arch-rivals the ‘Goddam Catholics.’ However, the story isn’t just about regaining champion status for the school it gives an insight as to how the schools and local communities in rural Montana coexisted then side by side for the benefit of all. The attention to detail Wayne addresses is phenomenon, the tension with all the drama expected from a small-town America community is there in bucket loads, all the gossip and shenanigans as well as the latest farming news are all too clear at times to see and read in the local paper, ‘The Pacer Coulee Chronicles.’ The storyline deals with real issues that impact the rural community, death and unfortunate circumstances. For me the legion of students cast as characters here with the townsfolk as well brings this book to life, the drama and the tension plays out right to the bitter end like any good book’s storyline should. I loved the characters Dolph, Earl and of course the unruly Brewster sisters. What a Book!

    A Stones Throw (Coming shortly)

    Middle Grade/Young Adult fiction

A heart-warming story set in the 1960’s, about an orphaned girl Maggie living in an orphanage in San Francisco. Her life is about to change when her paternal grandfather from rural Montana a veteran of WWI shows up and gets custodial rights to bring her back to his homestead ranch in the wilds of Montana. The rustic farming life she’s about to face is a far cry from the bustling city life of a cosmopolitan city such as San Francisco. For a twelve-year-old girl having to adapt to a new life is both scary and daunting, as well as having to get to know Ira an old war veteran a man who until now she had never heard of or met. The relationship between the two is difficult, Maggie doesn’t know how to relate to her unknown grandfather, like wise for Ira getting to know and understand what a twelve-year-old girl needs at her time of life is unfathomable to him. Yet the two of them need to adjust to each other if success is to be achieved.

Timothy Green is a British author From Chatham a town located within the Medway unitary authority in the ceremonial county of Kent, England. It would be fair enough of me to say that Timothy’s life at times has been an uphill struggle battling with mental health issues over a ten-year period that saw him in and out of various hospitals. In recent years a huge stabilizing influence in his life has been that of his fiancé Lena from South Africa. What unites the two of them is their passion not only for each other but their faith and poetry. When you have a look at the book, you’ll see just how much of these strengths come across. Yes, you can argue that Timothy’s creative mind has a huge influence in the poems but let me reassure you this book like all of Timothy’s books are a joint venture.

A person with a gentle nature is how Timothy best describes himself, he has a love of music as well and for him a good night out is a heavy jamming (impromptu musical) session in the local clubs and pubs. The stage life has often beckoned with musical tours but for the moment writing and publishing his poems is his present priority, and when you look at his poems, you’ll see why.

    Quirky Story

My old friend and I were always there for each other. One night we went out and within the throng and all other activities we lost each other, I ended up at his parent’s house and he at my parent’s house. We had a strange relationship but spent a lot of time together. We thoroughly enjoyed video games, music, pubs, clubs, football, cadets, work and of course poker nights. What great times we had.

    The Book

This book is a collection of some two hundred poetic verses, some of these poems have been uplifted from his other works but seventy of them are new. Some of them have a spiritual undertones stemming form Timothy’s own Christian beliefs others are simply breath-taking. Like all poetic/free verse writings there are simple compelling storylines hidden within the contents of all of Timothy’s wonderfully constructed verses.

Timothy has written six books in total all of which can be found on his webpage www.timothygreentimsir.com

  • The Human Mind: A Psychological View of Theological Concepts by Dr Eric J Kolb. Ph.D.

Dr Eric Kolb was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in the USA , he went to Ohio and Capella Universities, moved to Germany in 1994, worked as a street performer, circus performer, as an actor and comedian. He presently lives in Obernkirchen a small town near Hannover. Germany.

Muscular Dystrophy is a hereditary condition marked by weakening and wasting of the muscles, a life changing game plan if you are unfortunate enough like Eric to be diagnosed with this debilitating disease at such a young age. When he began working with the Clown Doctors, the first group of clowns to perform in Children’s Hospitals in Germany, his interest in child psychology began. Humour has been at the heart of Eric’s life, and he often describes it as the best medicine particularly when the chronic pain gets unbearable as the condition continues to ravage his body. Understanding and coming to terms with the choices available to him in life were going to be restrictive and that his future was destined for a wheelchair rather than a spotlight, Eric obtained a M.Sc. in Psychological Counselling. Amalgamating his skills as a performing artist, Eric became a licensed mental health practitioner in Germany, specializing in child development and behaviour. However, this also due to his deteriorating condition became too much of a challenge. Eric turned his attention to gaining a Ph.D. in General Psychology and has been working as an independent researcher ever since and recently as a writer when his hands allow him to type on the keyboard.

I asked Dr Kolb for a quirky story, and this is what he sent me.

    When I heard God Laugh.

I stated previously that I was given two years to live when I was first diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. That, of course, crushed me. It Crushed my heart, body, mind and soul. During all that unexpected stress, I had a flashback memory at a church summer camp. Being from a strong Christian family and having a famous father, I did not get much attention at such camps. The church leaders spent all their time with kids who needed their help and left me to fill up 1000 water balloons for all the other kids to play with while I and a few other kids were left to clean the kitchen after lunch. On the last evening, just before the typical alter call, they brought an older kid up on stage. He was the coolest kid there. He played guitar in the band, had a tattoo, and long hair. Everyone thought he was awesome. He went up on stage and told the story about how he tried to kill himself by drinking laundry detergent only a couple of months previously, but now he’s given his life to Christ. While everyone cheered, and all the girls wanted to hug him, and all the church leaders wanted to give him a high five; I couldn’t help to think “Idiot, do you know how much detergent you need to swallow before it will kill you and how long it would take?” The truth was this kid was clearly not on track, he had bad school grades and led a sinful life, no accomplishments to speak of, yet he was the cool one, the hero of the youth group! So, with that in mind we were all sent out to go off alone and think about if we wanted to accept Christ into our lives. I had done that I least twenty times in the past and concluded you only have to ask God once. So, I wanted to talk to God about this. I asked God,” why is my life so perfect, what kind of testimony will I ever be able to give? When will I ever be able to tell how God got me through an impossible problem when I never have any problems?” That’s when I heard God laugh and say, do not worry; you’ll get your chance.

I Think we can clearly see a connection now between Dr Kolb’s Theological concepts and his Psychology thoughts; hence his writings and his books so let’s turn to the book.

    The Book

The Human Mind: A psychological View of Theological Concepts

In, The Human Mind: A Psychological View of Theological Concepts, Dr Kolb compares and contrasts the scientific understanding of the human mind with that of the teaching of the Bible. In some cases, he sees that these two perspective viewpoints are similar, such as in various aspects of child development. However, where positive psychology claims that the power to induce change lies within the individual, the Bible on the other hand teaches that we can do nothing apart from Christ. Erics book starts off with the concepts of belief, upon which the mind develops. Both Christian Theology and scientific psychology agree that one’s beliefs serve as a lens through which reality is viewed, and that humans mainly choose what they want to believe. As such, an individuals’ core beliefs serve as the foundation upon which their mind develops. Dr Kolb’s book in theory outlines the numerous development processes of the human mind, beginning with the blank state, through sensory integration and learning through to the concept of self-awareness and the theory of mind upon which a person’s identity is formed. Finally, after corroborating the relationship between mind and behaviour, Dr Kolb closes the book with the contemplation of the nature and development of the mind of Jesus of Nazareth.

This book is an extraordinary book well written, thank you Eric. Here’s our video chat:

    The Psychology of God

This book was Dr Kolb’s first book and is about a scientific study of various aspects of human and the behaviour taken from both a theological and psychological perspective and serves as an introduction to the four books that follow. The Human Mind, which is the topic of today’s discussion, is the first book of this series. The Human Soul is currently being published and will be available shortly. The Human Heart is currently in the making, and The Human Body will complete the series. Kolb’s books point out that modern scientific psychology has discovered ancient references to the heart, body, mind and soul that form the very being of man, but science and theology still have contrasting viewpoints around the psychology of God.
