In this episode we continue the conversation of how to Stop Picky Eaters in their tracks - essential strategies and mindset shift.

Between six and nine months of age, we are setting the stage. It's an INTRODUCTION to solid foods, but plan you must!

Although it's a learning process with some trial and error, there are very specific strategies that keep you and your baby on track.

You never want to turn into a "short order cook" or "prepackaged family" --- you strive for healthy eating, family time, and learning together.

Avoid food battles, meltdowns and worry. Support physical development, emotional health, and consistent energy.

This episode I cover Tummy Time and how best to support your baby with courage, knowledge, and true success.

Growth and development are NOT linear.

Each child follows their own developmental rhythm, so not all babies will reach these stages at the same time, and sometimes they get bunched together.

It's a progression. It's necessary beyond strength and coordination.

Listen through and learn how it builds conscious intellectual activity!

Tummy Time supports:

• Visual skills / depth perception - visual & auditory connection/integration
• Open up hands / thumb - grabbing and picking small items (utensils, object play)
• Prevents / mitigate plagiocephaly  & torticollis
• Lengthen & strengthen front of the body: roll-over, sit-up, crawl, stand & walk
• Baby Led Weaning introduces solid foods around ~ 6 months 
   
• START with goal of  1-2 mins  for  every wake period / broken up in 24 hrs
• Think BURSTS: provide a few seconds on your chest, football position, or lap
• Around the second month introduce floor with a towel rolled up under him/her
• TOYS to distract are very helpful
• But remember... YOU are his #1 toy. You are her love interest.
• By 3 months  work toward 60 mins of tummy time broken up throughout the whole day ... sprinkled across each waking period

THE PURPOSE HERE is to find clarity & provide a place where moms can find peace knowing they don’t have to figure it out on their own.

It’s good for all of us - babies, children and adults - to push ourselves OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZOME  just a little bit ... and then practice things that are a bit hard.

That's how we grow.
That's healthy development.
That's progress.

That's living.

We don't have to over-think toddlers. They are pretty straightforward.

Look at their social-emotional growth, their physical development (large and small muscles), then - look at their verbal communication.

In this episode, I continue the 4 real-life cases of 'late talkers.' What types of behaviors do I gather during that first session? How can you do the same?

Questions to ask yourself:

• How connected are we when we play peek-a-boo or a tickle game?
• Does he smile at strangers with purpose?
• Can he attend to a book for 2-5 minutes? (not 'reading" but sharing)
• Does she try to talk?
• Can he follow my lead?
• Am I getting frustrated?
• Did he crawl or just start running?
• Have I ever really just watched him chew?

These types of questions hold a wealth of knowledge and can help lead you to peace of mind.
