You'll recognize actress Robin Wright's ("The Princess Bride," "House of Cards") voice in "When Elephants Fight," a documentary she produced with #StandWithCongo.

Wright talks about the film with JD Stier, president of Stier Forward and campaign director of #StandWithCongo, and Tom Perriello, U.S. Special Envoy to the African Great Lakes Region.

Mayor Bill de Blasio: Good to be here, Brian.

Lehrer: And I’d like to start with the topic of crime. I think you have some good numbers you want tout. But I see the NYPD is also promising 20 gang takedowns between now and the Fourth of July. I don’t remember ever hearing a numerical announcement like that before.

Mayor: Neither have I.

Lehrer: What can you tell us about what’s in the works.

Mayor: Yes, Brian, I don’t either, and I think it’s because something fundamental has changed. There’s a quick framing here. As the NYPD has succeeded more and more driving down violent crime, they’re able to focus more and more on the several thousands of individuals who literally account for most of the true intense violence in this...

Steven Petrow, modern-day etiquette columnist who writes the "Civilities" column for The Washington Post, makes a case for political correctness in society and discusses his experiences with the issue as a purveyor of good manners advice.

WNYC and NYPR's Matt Katz, author of American Governor: Chris Christie's Bridge to Redemption (Threshold Editions, 2016), discusses the list of Bridgegate co-conspirators, which was expected to be released by noon today, but which was held up by a federal judge after an anonymous individual named on the list claimed its release would brand him as a felon without due process of law. The list is now scheduled to be released on May 17. 

A group of news organizations requested this list, which was created by federal investigators in preparation for the trial of William Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority and Bridget Anne Kelly, the former deputy chief of staff for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. On Wednesday, legal papers filed by the prosecutors in that case revealed another list of individuals who "were aware of the alleged criminal conspiracy charted in this case, but did not join."  

Katz said this second list could be even more intriguing than the co-conspirators list. 

"It potentially goes to the cover up," Katz said. "People who might have been aware that this was happening and didn't notify the appropriate authorities and maybe ignored media questions about it and that is really intriguing because that seems to me like it could sweep even a larger number of people into it. But a judge has not ruled whether or not we're allowed to see that list."   

Brazil's senate has voted to put President Dilma Rousseff on trial over charges that she violated budgetary rules.

The vote ended 55-22, in favor of impeachment.

Catherine Osborn, a print and radio journalist based in Rio de Janeiro, discusses the charges and what's at stake.

India and China are on the rise; and whether they do so peacefully or not, the United States will need to pay close attention.

Anja Manuel, co-founder and partner of RiceHadleyGates LLC, a strategic consulting firm, served as an official at the US Department of State responsible for South Asia policy, and the author of This Brave New World: India, China and the United States (Simon & Schuster, 2016), discusses how Asia is expected to surpass the combined strength of North America and Europe in economic might, population size and military spending in the next decade and a half, and offers an alternative to alienating countries like China and India.

Manuel, who served in the State Department during the Bush administration, says U.S. policy toward China and India has been fairly consistent across administrations, landing somewhere in the "commonsense middle."

"If Trump is elected president, we’re no longer in that commonsense middle."

Donald Trump and Paul Ryan met this morning, and from their joint statement to the press, it sounds like they're committed to working together.

Melinda Henneberger, editor-in-chief of Roll Call and former senior writer at Bloomberg Politics, and William Saletan, Chief Political Correspondent for Slate Magazine, discusses the Trump-Ryan meeting and national politics of the day.

It sounds like a lot of distance was covered very quickly, asid Henneberger.

But Saletan warns against Ryan's move, calling it "very dangerous" and saying he's "buying short term peace at the expense of serious long-term problems...Paul Ryan either has no idea what he's dealing with or he's pretending to have no idea."
