Understand there are regulations issues but how about a smartphone app for nyc taxi companies to compete with uber? Is that doable? People often don’t want to go out and hail a taxi.

@BrianLehrer - There is a ride calling app for taxis, called Curb. It tries to level the playing field with Uber and such. It's cheaper since it's a taxi. Give a shout out!

Solutions are not easy, and there will always be winners and losers, but, it's time for hard decisions to be made. The livery system was not intended to usurp all other sectors. It is time to look at whether the city wants to maintain a medallion system.
