One of the brain tattoos of my teachings that has helped so many of my clients is this one: Energy is more important than intelligence. To dominate your game and build your empire you don’t need to be the smartest person in the room. Not at all. You just need to have the most energy. To implement your visions. To bring application to your dreams. And to handcraft a life you adore. I'm truly super excited over the upcoming release of my new book The Robot and the Gardener: Being Fully Human in an Artificial Age (Penguin Random House). It's a parable and it's different (by far!) from any book I've ever written. You can join the list here if you'd like to be among the first to receive any updates. Often, a writer has distilled 20 or 30 years of their wisdom and expertise and experiences in a single volume (that you can read in a few good evenings or a series of early mornings). Associating with someone who is living the life you want or someone who has skills you wish for or someone who has the interior qualities you hope to embody leaves you richer than when you picked up the book. Sometimes, a single conversation with the right person alters the unfolding of your life. Same for the right book. Kill Your Darlings. It’s an old writers mantra (credit: William Faulkner) which speaks to the fact that to make your magic real you need to delete everything from your creative project except for that which is absolutely astonishing. Masterwork is much more about what you leave out than put in. Sure you can meditate and pray and heal and go silent. All such practices work. To help you step into who and all you’re meant to be, as you realize your highest destiny. But, if you and I were having coffee at a simple yet soulful cafe in some special and perhaps even mystical far-off land (Bhutan is on my list) and after a sip or two, you asked me “Robin, what’s the one spiritual skill that lifts every other spiritual skill?” I’d reply, after a sip or two, “learning to get really really really good at letting go.” Sure, it sounds so simple. To… …let go and let God. …to do your best and then have the bravery, wisdom and faith to let life do the rest. …to exercise action and then release longing and wishing and trust the ancient and transformational prayer “thy will be done.” Seems easy. Hard to apply, in reality. Because we all want what we want. It’s such a challenge to let go, and trust that after we’ve done our human part (invested the sweat equity, risen when fallen and stood for excellence) whatever comes is for our absolute best. Yet, why would we not want it? Because it’s for our best, if you get my drift.
