In this episode, I chat with Lindsey Doyle, MSc - a BJJ purple belt and former MMA and elite Irish kickboxing athlete turned nutritionist who is passionate about helping female athletes cut weight without sacrificing their health in the process. We dive into her past experiences cutting weight, what she does and doesn't recommend as effective weight cutting practices, and the dangers and health implications of chronic short-term weight cutting.
Based out of Ireland, Lindsey is a 37-year-old mother of two who lives in Dublin with her fiancee, kiddos and two dogs. She started kickboxing at 14 and by 16 was fighting all over the world on the Irish kickboxing team. since then she has also competed internationally in boxing, MMA and BJJ. In the meantime she was studying Law in University and pursuing a career in that arena until in her mid 20s until she decided law was not for her and finally followed her passion which was sport and strength and conditioning. She completed a lot of self-experimentation to make weight over the years based on research which was primarily based on men. Since then she has had a huge passion about female combat athletes both making weight and strength training to reach their full potential. She is a 3rd degree black belt in kickboxing, a purple belt in BJJ under Darragh O'Connail, and a level 2 strength and conditioning coach under the late great Charles Poliquin. She studied Functional Sports Nutrition with Institute of Health Sciences in Dublin and then completed my Masters in Exercise and Nutrition Science with the University of Chester. She runs 3 businesses, her Female Fight Nutritionist online practice, a bricks and mortar gym with 2 business partners here in Dublin called The Lab Performance and Nutrition and a BJJ strength and conditioning subscription business called Impruv Grappling.
