Rentvesting as a strategy involves buying a property, and leasing it out whilst continuing to rent somewhere else, or perhaps continuing to live at home. If you’ve decided that rentvesting is a strategy you might want to pursue, especially after listening to last weeks episode where we discussed investment basics and how property compares to other investment classes, then your next step is to start educating yourself on property investment 101.
Because if we’re rentvesting rather than buying a home to live in, we need to have a clear investment strategy which is based on the pure, hard numbers, rather than emotion. There is no point in buying an investment property if it isn’t going to give you the right return, and achieve your goals.
In todays episode we discuss the pros and cons of rentvesting, why you should bother considering it, what you need to consider when putting an investment strategy together, tax implications - CGT and negative/positive gearing, and how to get independent advice.
