In this week's episode I am joined by maternal mental health therapist, Anese Barnett. Anese is a former NICU mama with a healthy and amazing baby boy. Anese works with mothers who have NICU babies and high risk pregnancies. Anese is passionate about maternal mental health and teaching mothers how to prioritize their health in order to be happy mothers with happy children. Anese loves meeting new people and speaking to guests about the maternal mental health crisis we face in our communities. Her overall goal is to fill the gap and push organizations to consider the importance of addressing a mother's mental health before and after having her baby. In this week's episode I spend time talking about self care and taking a break. We need to sit down sometimes and re-evaluate. Sometimes we run ourselves into the ground thinking we need to be everywhere with everyone. After the week we had with the Derek Chauvin verdict, I felt it was important to let people know they are not alone. We need to unplug at times. Take care of yourself and prioritize yourself.

In this week's episode I spent some time reflecting on this past year since the start of COVID 19. This day last year, I was preparing to give birth to my son Zachary. I can vividly remember the anxiety I experienced as well as the fear I had. I give some insight into what I was healing at the time and some of the concerns that still linger to this day as we continue to grieve the loss of what could have been and adjust to the new normal.
