Most of the time when we share interviews with you on this podcast, it features an established author, researcher, doctor, blogger or someone with a presence on the Internet. However, when Jimmy heard about the story of a young man with Type 1 diabetes who had beat it with a low-carb diet, he just had to get him on the podcast for a chat. That young man's name is Dave Dikeman and he's joined on the show by his dad Richard. Listen in as Jimmy speaks with Dave and Richard about how they discovered he had Type 1 diabetes after losing 12 pounds and having a scare with diabetic ketoacidosis, the rather "interesting" food they fed him in the hospital, the adjustment period trying to follow the American Diabetes Association diet, their shocking, eye-opening realization during an ADA-fundraising event where they served high-carb snacks that there had to be a better way, how they came across low-carb nutrition for controlling diabetes, how to overcome the "kids-need-carbs" mentality, what his friends think about the way he eats and whether he feels ostracized eating this way, what his favorite low-carb foods are, whether he see this diet as challenging in any way, how he gets an A1c of 4.4, and so much more. Dave and Richard aren't promoting anythingbut the fact that anyone can do this if they're willing to give up sugar and grains. Be inspired by what this kid has to share about overcoming obstacles to not just survive, but thrive. ENJOY!
