The Longhorn Republic

The Texas Longhorns baseball team came out hot against the Rice Owls, securing their first season-opening sweep since the 2009 season. Both the young bats and experienced arms were alive over the weekend as the Longhorns took care of business against against the Owls.

On the gridiron, notable players will be moving positions for the spring, as Jordan Whittington moves to receiver, Malcolm Epps moves inside to tight end, with perhaps the biggest move coming on defense as safety DeMarvion Overshown moves down to linebacker.

The Texas Longhorns baseball season is upon us, so we took the opportunity to give you a rundown of what to expect from 2020. After some big wins early, the 2019 campaign ended in disappointing fashion, with Texas missing out on the Big 12 tournament. Injuries and inconsistency plagued the Longhorns last year, so what will it take for David Pierce to get this group back on track?

After a tough season, the Texas Longhorns needed to replace seven of their 10 coaches and have finally completed that job with the hiring of Mark Hagen as the team' second defensive line coach. Head coach Tom Herman hopes this is the group of coaches to get the job done, but can they maximize the talent to see a better result in 2020?

The Texas Longhorns snagged two of their remaining targets, defensive end Alfred Collins and athlete Kelvontay Dixon, a strong enough finish to push the #cloUT2020 to No. 9 overall. The class gives Tom Herman his third-consecutive top-10 class, in spite of the turnover on the coaching staff. Collins and Dixon join a group that already boasts the top running back in the country, two of the top quarterbacks, as well as three of the top 10 players in the state.

Heading into National Signing Day, the Texas Longhorns are just outside of 247Sports' top 10, but have several players outstanding on their board that could help them make the jump. Two top-tier defensive linemen, a desperately-needed cornerback and an explosive athlete are the chief targets for Texas, but what are their chances of landing a difference-maker as the 2020 class comes to a close?

To give some insight, we reached out to Mike Roach of Horns247 to help us get a sense of the Longhorns' chances as the class winds to a close.

The Texas Longhorns' struggles on the hardwood continued, at least for the men, as their losing streak extended to three games after falling to the LSU Tigers during the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Longhorns' look to be headed for another lost season, as they currently sit two games below .500 and will likely be underdogs for the rest of the season. On the women's side, Texas is flying high on a four-game win streak after a come-from-behind victory over the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.

The Texas Longhorns found some success on the ground this season, but the production in the ground game could not be called consistent. With injuries leaving Keaontay Ingram as the only healthy, proven running back, quarterback Roschon Johnson stepped into the role and was able to make big contributions. But what are the other stories from the ground game and how does that spin forward to a 2020 season where the running back room should be more stable?

The Texas Longhorns' coaching search is winding down as Texas has officially landed its new special teams and tight ends coach in former Texas player Jay Boulware and linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler. Both bring a ton of experience at their respective positions, so what are expectations for the two.

While on the hardwood, the basketball team struggled in back-to-back games as fans call for a change and coaches search for answers.

With the college football season officially in the rearview mirror, it's time to take a step back and look at the season that was. The Texas Longhorns may not have had the season fans expected, but the Longhorns managed to put up several solid performances in the passing game. Sam Ehlinger continues to put his name among the top quarterbacks in school history, while Devin Duvernay had one of the greatest receiving seasons in school history.
