On Novemeber 20th, 2000 my beloved Father took his own life. I was 20 years old.
In this episode I read a post I wrote last year on the 20th anniversary of his death about my experience with grief and the choice I had to make to move forward.
I believe that when we share our stories (no matter how dark and hard they are) we free ourselves and others.
My father's suicide isn't a shameful secret I keep. It's one of the many crucial events in my life that helped to shape me into the woman I am today.
We need to talk about suicide (and sucidal thoughts) so WE CAN SAVE LIVES.
Our shadows can't find the light if we keep them locked inside our heads and hearts.
Find support in friends and experts you trust and let the darkness pour out of you so you don't get lost in it.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours. Call 1-800-273-8255.
The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.
