  • Episode 24: Journaling as a Legacy

DM me over on Instagram (@kendallsnydercoaching) the word: SUMMER for details on working with me in 6 incredible coaching sessions this summer!

I’m Kendall Snyder, and today’s episode is one that is so close to my heart.

Today, we’re talking about journaling — not just for yourself — but as a legacy. A gift you can leave for your children, your grandchildren, and generations you may never even meet.

There’s something powerful about writing down your story. Not a perfect story. Not a polished story. But a real, faithful, beautiful story — the kind that only you can tell.

Today I’ll share why your story matters, how journaling can capture your heart for generations to come, and how you can start a legacy journal for your family — even if you’ve never thought about it before.

Start with These Simple Legacy Prompts.

You don’t have to start at the beginning of your life story. You can start today, right where you are.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

    • What has God taught you in your life so far?
    • What were some of the hardest seasons you lived through, and how did God meet you there?
    • What are some of the happiest memories you hold dear?
    • What prayers have you prayed over your family?
    • What advice would you give to someone walking through a hard season?
    • What are the small daily habits that helped you stay close to God?

  • Episode 23: *Special Guest* Living Your Dream Life with Shanna Pyzer

Hey friends, welcome back to The Journaling Room. Today is such a gift because I’m joined by my dear friend and fellow coach, Shanna Pyzer from The Christian Life Coach Podcast. We're here to have an honest conversation about what it really means to live your dream life — the good, the beautiful, and yes… the messy too.

We’re not handing you a Pinterest-perfect checklist today. What we are doing is sitting down to talk about how coaching, journaling, and our faith have shaped our stories — and how they can shape yours too. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re doing it wrong because it feels hard, this conversation is for you.

    ✨ Journaling Prompts:

    1. What thoughts might help you experience your dream life right now, instead of waiting for circumstances to change?
    2. If living your dream life is a way of thinking, not arriving — what thoughts would you need to practice daily to embody that mindset?
    3. Where are you delaying joy or purpose by believing “I’ll feel better when…”? How can you choose to live that feeling today?

    4. How might your dream life already be happening — not later, but now?

  • Episode 22: Journaling for Decision Making Clarity

If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to make a decision — like stuck in that mental ping-pong game, going back and forth, back and forth — then today’s episode is just for you.

We all face decisions. Some feel small — like what to cook for dinner. Some feel big — like whether to take a new job, move to a new city, end a relationship, or start a new adventure.

And it can feel heavy. Sometimes so heavy we don’t move at all.

But what I’ve learned — and what I’ll walk you through today — is that journaling can clear the fog. Writing gives us a place to untangle all the fears, all the hopes, all the noise. It’s like giving your mind a deep breath.

So today, I’m going to take you on a decision-making journey. You’ll leave with a simple but powerful journaling process that you can return to anytime you need clarity or confidence in making a choice.

    1. What exactly am I deciding?
    2. What are all the options?
    3. What feels scary and exciting about each option?
    4. Which option grows me closer to the person I want to become?

    5. God, what wisdom do You want me to have about this?

  • Episode 21: Letter Writing as a Journaling Practice

There’s something sacred about a letter. Letters slow us down. They help us connect with what matters. They give us a focused space to be honest, compassionate, and reflective. And when used intentionally in your journaling, they can become powerful tools for healing, clarity, identity, and even transformation.

Today, we’re going to talk about three ways you can use letter writing in your journal:

    - Letters to your past self

    - Letters to your present self

    - Letters to your future self

And we’ll also talk about the healing power of unsent letters—the ones you write, not to send, but to release.

  • Episode 20: Journaling for Emotional Regulation

Hi friend, and welcome back to The Journaling Room. I’m your host, Kendall Snyder, and today we’re talking about a powerful, life-giving practice: journaling for emotional regulation.

Now before that phrase intimidates you, let me break it down. Emotional regulation simply means: being able to name, feel, and respond to your emotions in a healthy way.

We all experience intense emotions—sadness, fear, shame, frustration, disappointment—and sometimes we aren’t even sure why they hit us so hard. But when we don’t know how to process them, we tend to do one of two things: suppress them or act out of them. Either way, they end up running the show.

And that’s where journaling comes in.

    Identify – Name – Validate – Shift

    Let’s break it down:

    1. Identify the emotion.

Pause and ask: What am I actually feeling right now?

Write down the raw, honest answer. Not what you think you should feel. What you do feel.

    2. Name it specifically.

Instead of saying “bad” or “upset,” try to name the more specific emotion:

    - Is it guilt?

    - Is it fear of rejection?

    - Is it embarrassment?

This helps your brain narrow in and make sense of it.

    3. Validate it.

Write this: “It makes sense that I feel this way because…”

Give yourself permission. You’re not wrong for having the emotion. Even if the story behind it isn’t fully true—your emotion is valid.

    4. Shift it (gently).

Once the emotion has been seen and felt, ask:

“What do I want to believe right now?” or “What emotion would help me respond with wisdom or courage?”

You're not bypassing the hard feeling. You're just asking: Now that I’ve felt it—what’s the next best step?

  • Episode 19: Creating a Journaling Routine You Love

Hey friend, and welcome back to The Journaling Room! I’m your host, Kendall Snyder, and today we’re talking about something that I get asked a lot—**how to create a journaling routine that you actually love and stick with**.

Because here’s the truth: journaling isn’t just a practice. It can become a place—a safe place you return to again and again to hear your own voice, meet with God, and check in with your heart. But like anything good, it works best when we build a rhythm that fits our real life—not just our ideal one.

So if you’ve ever started strong and then fizzled out, or if you’ve felt stuck in your journal and wondered, “What do I even write about?”—this episode is for you.

  • Episode 18: Writing as a Tool for Processing Pain

Hi friend, and welcome back to The Journaling Room. I’m your host, Kendall Snyder, and today we’re talking about something tender and powerful—healing through journaling.

If you’ve ever wondered what it actually means to “process pain” or how writing can help with that, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re new to journaling or already have a rhythm, this episode will gently guide you into using your journal not just as a notebook—but as a safe space for healing.

entle Journaling Exercise: Sitting With Your Pain**

Let me offer you a journaling practice I give many of my clients—especially those walking through something hard. It’s simple, but it holds space for a lot.

    Here’s how it goes:

    1. Set a timer for 10 minutes.

Just 10 minutes. This is your time to be present with yourself.

    2. Name the feeling.

    Start with:

    “Right now, I’m feeling...”

Let yourself name it honestly, even if it feels messy or contradicts itself.

    3. Let the feeling speak.

    Then write:

“If this feeling could talk, it would say...”

This helps you externalize the emotion and get curious instead of overwhelmed.

    4. Offer compassion.

    End with this:

“What does this part of me need to hear right now?”

Maybe it’s: “I see you.” Maybe it’s: “No wonder you feel this way.” Whatever it is, offer it gently.

You don’t have to fix everything in one sitting. The goal isn’t resolution—it’s presence. The healing often begins there.

  • Episode 17: Journaling for Fun and Creativity

If you’ve ever felt like journaling is just for working through heavy emotions or setting serious goals, today’s episode is going to feel like a breath of fresh air. Because we’re talking about journaling for fun and creativity.

That’s right—this one’s for the doodlers, the dreamers, the note-to-self writers, the list makers, the quote collectors… and the women who want to bring more lightness, color, and play into their pages.

Whether you’re new to journaling or have stacks of filled notebooks like I do, this episode is your reminder that journaling can be pure joy.

10 Ways to Journal Just for Fun

    1. Write a letter to your younger self.

Tell her what you love about who she was. Encourage her. Thank her for getting you here. Bonus points if you decorate the page with hearts or washi tape.

    2. Make a "Things I’m Currently Loving" list.

Books, songs, coffee orders, cozy socks, favorite memes. Capture the simple things lighting you up right now.

    3. Doodle your day instead of writing it.

Draw stick figures, icons, emojis—whatever! Even if you “can’t draw,” this is your journal. No rules. Just have fun with it.

    4. Create a dream playlist and describe how it makes you feel.

List songs that lift your mood or take you back to a moment. Music is pure magic—and journaling about it brings that energy to life.

    5. Try a "Word of the Day" page.

Pick a random word (seriously—open a book and point!). Then write a poem, sentence, or even a silly story using it. Just play.

    6. Paste in a photo and write a little story behind it.

It could be a vacation pic, a screenshot from your camera roll, or an old family photo. Use tape, glue, or just describe the picture if you’re journaling on the go.

    7. Make a bucket list—but only with ridiculous, whimsical ideas.

Like, “Have coffee with a giraffe,” “Swim in Jell-O,” or “Dance under the stars in Paris.” Let your imagination run wild.

    8. Design your dream space.

Imagine your perfect reading nook, art studio, office, or even your dream backyard. Describe every detail—colors, textures, smells, sounds. Bonus points if you sketch it out or make a vision board-style page with magazine clippings or doodles.

    9. Create a color-themed page.

Pick a color—maybe yellow. Then write down everything that color makes you feel, remember, taste, or want to do. It’s like creative journaling meets mindfulness.

    10. Make a “Reverse Bucket List.”**

Instead of writing what you want to do someday, write down all the amazing, fun, beautiful, or surprising things you’ve already done. Big or small—first concerts, spontaneous road trips, random acts of bravery. Celebrate the life you’ve lived so far!

Let me give you a few simple journaling prompts you can play with this week:

    - If my life had a soundtrack, what would the opening credits song be?

    - What’s something I’ve never done but think would be hilarious to try?

    - What’s a random object in my house that has a funny backstory?

    - If I could only wear one outfit forever, what would it be and why?

    - What’s a silly rule I’d make if I were Queen of Everything for a day?

  • Episode 16: Journaling for Goal Setting and Achievement

Today, we’re diving into one of my all-time favorite uses for journaling: goal setting and achieving those big, beautiful dreams in your heart. Because journaling isn’t just for sorting out your feelings (although we love a good emotional brain dump!). It’s also one of the most powerful tools I know for creating the life you want—on purpose.

Let’s recap the prompts real quick so you can come back to them:

    1. If I had unlimited time, money, energy, and confidence—what would I love to do, experience, or become this year?

    2. What’s one goal I want to achieve in the next 90 days—and why does it matter to me?

    3. What would I need to believe about myself in order to achieve that goal?

    4. What small action could I take today that would move me 1% closer to that goal?

    5. Dear Past Me, I’m so proud of you because…

Write them down, take your time, and enjoy the process. You're not just setting goals—you’re building your life on purpose.

  • Episode 15: Journaling for Anxiety Relief

Today’s episode is one that I think we all need from time to time.

We’re talking about journaling for anxiety relief—how writing can calm an anxious mind, help you get perspective, and create space for peace.

If your heart feels a little tight…

    If your thoughts are racing…

Or if you’re just carrying more than your nervous system knows what to do with…

You’re not alone. And your journal can help.

We’re going to talk about how and why journaling helps with anxiety, and then I’ll guide you through a gentle, simple journaling exercise you can come back to anytime you need to release some of that inner tension.

I want to leave you with a few gentle truths—ones I often come back to in my own journaling when I’m feeling anxious:

    - You don’t have to solve everything right now.

    - God is not asking you to carry it alone.

    - Not every thought you think is true.

    - This moment is hard, but it won’t last forever.

    - You are not your anxiety.

    - There is peace available, even in the middle of uncertainty.

    - You’re doing better than you think.

Set aside time for a 10-minute “anxiety release” journaling session.

Use the prompts we just walked through:

    - What’s on my heart right now?

    - What can I control today?

    - God, here’s the truth I want to remember from You…

You might even write these on a sticky note or tape them into your journal as a reminder.
