Isabella and I journeyed for a good 6 months together, on the dilemma of whether or not to renew our Hypnobirthing Practitioner Registration. We both decided not to.

In this podcast interview we discuss how we came to that decision, plus a little on the origins of Hypnobirthing, how it's evolved, our personal journeys with it and why we believe the core message may have been lost.

I speak with Freya Kelley on womanhood and why it is not an identity.

We discuss and define the terms Feminism, Matriarchy, Female Erasure, TERF and the difference between gender and sex; what a Matriarchal household can look like, the Universal principles of fertility, the uplifting of the natural processes of birth, the regeneration of Mother Earth and the damaging effects of the technocratic shift away from Nature under a Patriarchal Structure.

This discussion doesn't come without controversy, so there's one poignant take away from our discussion that I'd really love you to ponder: if we don't have the word woman, how can we speak about our oppression...?

In the latest episode of the Midwitch Podcast, I speak with Casey Hone; Birth and Postpartum Doula, Acupuncturist, Yoga Teacher and Spirit Baby Intuitive. Casey understands that our modern western culture can be a hostile place to create and raise a family and so applies her traditional Chines Therapies in all aspects of her work. 

Casey believes that if our mothers are not well rested, loved and nourished, our future generations won't be either and that the world's health and wellbeing begins there.

Well, you asked for it - more Aussie freebirthing stories! Here is the first of many to come!

After 2 previous birth experiences that were unnecessarily sabotaged by the medical system, Mel decided she was not going to be a part of that system for the birth of her third child. She was no longer going to do what she was told and allow the same things to happen again. So she decided to opt out of that system.

Mel speaks about the moment the term 'freebirthing' came into her consciousness and the healing journey of questioning and re-framing her 2 previous birth experiences, to awaken to the painful truths of what had unfolded.

Mel's medicalised birth experiences were so frighteningly similar to other Mamas; a non present Midwife, an intimidating OB telling her to 'get it done', internal vaginal exams, misinformation presented to her during prenatal care that was later absent on her file, a non consensual episiotomy, an unnecessary vacuum delivery, failure to progress - all the things that became unacceptable to Mel as a birthing woman third time round.

And you wait til you hear her story of free birthing! Think rainforest, back deck, incense burning and a beautiful 'earth babe' (as her Mama describes her) daughter entering the world...you're going to love it!

My dear friend Amy from Mother Unearthed shares her wisdom and knowledge as a Postpartum Doula, Nutritionist and Mama of 2. Amy and I discuss our own positive and negative experiences of postpartum, the expectations we place on ourselves as mothers post birth, how to re-create your own village of support, postpartum depletion and repletion, the impact of medicalised birth on our postpartum experiences, the cycle of anxiousness and low feelings, the loneliness, how mothers can and do create a supported and restful postpartum AND the importance of planning for your postpartum - for the one time in our lives we may not actually know what we need!

It was an honour (and dream come true!) to interview Maryn from Indie Birth on the podcast. Indie Birth are leading a global revolution in restoring autonomous birth, for birthing women and birth workers.

Maryn shares her own relationship, and journey, with our industrial birth model - as a licensed Midwife, birthing mother, and now as a truly independent Midwife. We discuss the fact that medicalised birth is still relevant, why and how this relates to the evolution of our consciousness as women reclaiming their power, plus the elements and vision of the new paradigm of birth we wish to see in the world. 

Maryn speaks directly to the 'indie' part of their name, their history, message and work in the world. I ask Maryn her thoughts and beliefs on medicalised birth, the term, varying definitions and the spiritual role of the word Midwifery, the dynamics of social media and it's role in the world of birth, and so much more!
