SURPRISE: This week we have TWO BONUS EPISODES in collaboration with our friends, Laura & Lindsey, from the American Girl Women podcast!

On our podcast feed, you'll find us covering the unsolved murders of the Jacobs family, and on the American Girl Women podcast feed, you'll find our interview with them about girlhood, American Girl dolls, and how we met! We had so much fun with these two ladies! (Click here to listen to the interview: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0TIdu8vcLNeW29QoeuNPrh?si=qOcGYBKOTIGxMl8K_7VfcQ)

“Who killed the Jacobs family?” is the question that has haunted Sacramento’s Upper Land Park neighborhood for thirty-three years. The Jacobs were a typical American family, until one January morning in 1991, when they were brutally slain in the one place they should have been the safest– their home. Dozens of detectives have tried to crack the case, to untangle the rumors and speculation, but justice has yet to be served.

Their names were Mick, Marcy, and Jennifer Jacobs, and this is their story.

If you or someone you know has information about the Jacobs family homicides, call the Sacramento Police Department at 916-264-5471.

Special thanks to Laura and Lindsey from the American Girl Women podcast for joining us on this episode!

Unfortunately, there is limited information available about the case. (It’s more common than you’d think with cases like Marilee’s!) While the episode is a bit shorter than usual, we believe her story deserves to be told. Please give it a listen. Marilee deserves justice, and her family needs answers!

If you have any information about the murder of Marilee Burt you can call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit https://www.metrodenvercrimestoppers.com/ Tipsters can remain anonymous.

According to the National Institute of Justice, the majority of missing person cases are solved and the majority of the cases solved bring victims back alive. In 2012, for example, around 659,000 of the 661,000 missing persons cases reported that year were resolved by the end of the year.

But what happens when cases aren’t solved within a year? Or five years? Ten years? What happens when a case has been cold for 45 years? Today we are discussing one such case. It is the case of a young man, the family who maintained that he would come home, and a niece who decided to fight for a resolution.

His name is Brian Vargo. This is his story.

We were privileged in being able to speak with Brian’s niece Amanda, the daughter of one of Brian’s older brothers, for this episode. Although Amanda never met her uncle, she was able to tell us about his upbringing and personality based on her own research.

If you have information about the disappearance of Brian Vargo please contact the Austin Police Department’s missing persons unit at 512-974-4123.
