The Murder Diaries

Brian Randall Shaffer was born on February 25th, 1979 to parents Renee and Randy Shaffer. He went on to get his bachelors in microbiology from Ohio State University, and then started medical school at OSH. Brian earned excellent grades and was on track to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. One night during Spring break he went missing, seemingly without a trace.

This is his story.

Brian Shaffer would be 44 years old. He is a caucasian male with light brown hair and hazel eyes with a black spot on his left iris. He is 6’2'' and was 165 pounds at the time of his disappearance. He was last seen wearing an olive green short-sleeved polo shirt over a white long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, white Adidas sneakers, and a yellow rubber cancer awareness bracelet. He has a Pearl Jam symbol on his right bicep.

Emmilee Renae Risling was born on February 19, 1989 to parents Gary and Judy Risling. She has a sister named Mary and was raised in Northern California. Her family lived on California’s coast line, near the city of Arcata.

Emmilee took her Hupa duties very seriously and was proud of her Native American heritage. She would sing and dance in traditional ceremonies and even participated in a march in Washington DC as a teenager to celebrate the opening of the Smithonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. The celebration drew national attention and she was even featured on the front page of the Washington Post.

When she was 15, she was the vice president of the Native American club at her high school and was quoted as saying, “My culture is really important to me. That’s the way I’ve been raised.”

This is her story.

Today we are joined by Amber Smith, a mom, wife, and survivor of the Route 91 Harvest music festival mass shooting. The gunman at Mandalay Bay unleashed bullets for 11 minutes into the festival. It became one of the most deadly mass shootings in the US.

Ashleigh Anne Love was born on September 17, 1990 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was the only daughter of Tammy and Joe Love and the middle child with an older brother, Anthony and a younger brother, Alex. Her mother said in an interview that “Ashleigh was the sweetest, kindest person in the world. She would do anything for anyone.”

Amber Rene Hagerman was born on November 25, 1986. In 1996 she was in the third grade and attended Berry Elementary School in Arlington, Texas. She loved the Disney princess Pocahontas, playing with Barbie dolls and teddy bears, and riding her bike. Amber was extremely close to her family, she adored her mother Donna and her younger brother Ricky. Hers is a story that led an entire society to rethink safety and create legislation that has saved hundreds of children’s lives.

Kristal Reisinger has been missing since July 13, 2016. Kristal relocated to Crestone from Denver to find spiritual enlightenment, solace, and sobriety. It was first believed that Kristal had simply walked away from her life, but in 2018, the Saguache County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced that foul play was involved in her disappearance.
