I’m going to share with you the three types of Negotiators that exist in the world. We will dive into each type of negotiator and I’ll share the characteristics of that person, how they may be perceived, what they care about during a negotiation and more.
You’ll be able to see what type of negotiator YOU are, and also super valuable, if you know your physician, practice administrator or administrative lead well, you may be able to pick out what THEIR negotiator type is.

You know you can’t talk about working in healthcare – the nights, the weekends, the thankless job and the seemingly never-ending tasks… without talking about you, the human being who works in healthcare. It’s a lot to do, all while dealing with all the things you do as a person outside of your profession.
It’s awesome if healthcare is your calling, your passion, your profession and something you feel drawn to, but hopefully you can have some passions and pursuits outside of the healthcare realm as well.
Today I’m sharing a very important reminder that you are a person first and a PA second. Sure, being a Physician Associate is a HUGE deal and a major part of your life, but it’s not the *only* thing. You were a human being before you were a hero. You are a person AND a PA, not a PA instead of a person!
If you are a “healthcare hero” that wishes they were being treated with basic human rights, press play. If you are a PA who misses who they were when they were a person, press play… this episode is for you!

There’s a certain type of magical manifesting and results that happen when you actually ask specifically for what you want. And you guys… asking for what you want is a mega, big deal, real deal game changer.
Whether it’s what you are asking for as a gift for Christmas, a birthday present, a patient to walk into a lifestyle change, or changing your hours or increasing your compensation package with a salary increase and mega productivity bonus – specificity matters.
In this conversation, I’m sharing why it matters that you are specific, clear and creative in your requests. I’m sharing what I’ve learned about the ask and how specific you need to be with that ask.

The PA Is In Podcast didn’t used to be about PAs! I used to teach on working motherhood and what it’s like working as a mom of young children in medicine. We pivoted the show to focus on the PA profession and you as a unique person and a PA.
I’ve gotten so many DMs and requests to hear about different Physician Associate topics, professional development, personal resources and more. I am super excited to share on all these topics, to charge forward into the future of the PA Profession together, and to serve you in this PA specific space.
Pivoting is changing directions and I want to share with you where we are going on this show and as a profession in general. It’s saying “hey, where I’ve been going isn't’ where I want to go anymore” and setting your sights on a new destination. Press play for a breakdown of the topics of The PA Is In.
And so today is all about The PA, the professional side, and being “In”, the personal side of life and the topics you can expect to hear here.

It’s that time of the year again: Performance Review time – and it’s time to use these performance reviews to advance your career, increase your income and improve your quality of life.
Negative reviews in the past? We will dive into tangible strategies for the three steps you need to take after a negative review and I’m sharing how to make yourself feel like a badass PA, even in the wake of a not-so-hot performance eval.
In this episode, I’ll tell you about my own struggles with negative reviews, negative self-talk and the practice that I created to overcome these hurdles. I’m even sharing some behind-the-scenes personal reviews - the check in that you need on your calendar for yourself, your personal development and the key relationships in your life.

The son of an English teacher, Harrison Reed debated English and writing, publication and journalism as a career alternative to being a Physician Associate. Communicating in written form is something that he found to be both necessary and a great tool to wield in the field of medicine.
Harrison has been clinical editor, associate editor, and acting Editor in Chief at The Journal of the American Academy of PAs (JAAPA). His research on PA turnover recently won the 2022 AAPA Publishing Award and his most recent venture, Harrison Reed Writing, aims to help PAs and other healthcare professionals achieve their writing and publication goals.
From thinking of that next article topic, drafting and writing the article and finding a great editor, he’s focusing on the impact that PAs can have through research, writing and publication.
Harrison is here to talk about the role we play in the larger society of life, medicine and PA life using writing as a tool. Whether you’re a published author or an aspiring writer who works in healthcare, this episode is for you.
