The Power of Trust

Listen Later

Trust is something I’ve been focused on for most of my life. Sometimes it’s been easy to trust myself and others and sometimes it’s been a real challenge. Today, I’ll share my own insights and breakthroughs on trust and the four different types that are important in every aspect of our life. Trust me, it will be a good one!

Key Takeaways:

[2:55] This episode covers the four different types of trust that are important to everything we do in life and our relationships with ourselves and others. Trust in: ourselves, others, our groups, and life.

[3:44] Trusting yourself doesn’t always mean being right. It means having faith in your instincts, making decisions that come from our opinions and taking actions based upon your own creative process. It can also mean forgiving ourselves when we make mistakes.

[5:13] Oftentimes, our lack of trust in others has to do with the lack of trust in ourselves. I share an experience where I discovered this firsthand and had a breakthrough leading me to trust in myself and propose to my wife.

[12:41] Learning to trust others more easily is an important skill in life, even with the knowledge we might get hurt or disappointed. Practice granting trust to others, and trust to yourself to set up boundaries if they break that trust.

[14:41] Trust at a group level brings us psychological safety. We grow and learn when we are in an environment that will still accept us even when we take risks and speak our own thoughts.

[20:39] Sometimes the need to fit in comes at the expense of our own voice. The more real and authentic you are in a group, the more it gives other people space to do the same.

[22:09] A basic trust of life helps us navigate the many twists and turns along our windy path. Even with the pains, and challenges, there is always a lesson and always an opportunity to grow.

[26:37] Think of the most trusting person you know and their ability to trust people. What can you learn from them to take into your own life?

[27:54] Focus on the good stuff in life. Know that the universe does provide and find reasons daily to back that up with gratitude and trust.
