Empathy is often treated as something we should always have, but it has limits. Meaning, if a friend keeps repeating the same mistake, it becomes harder to have compassion or to see that they may be going through difficult times. A lot of the time, I believe it's just who they are, and we failed to see it at the beginning of the friendship.
