Markets are down 6% and very over sold: This is the time to look for opportunities. The problem with finding market bottoms is the time it takes to work it out. Significantly, markets tested the 200-DMA on Tuesday for the first time in a long, long time. There is a cluster of resistance around 5900 on the S&P: The 20-DMA, the 50-DMA, the 100-DMA are all clustered there. It will be tough for markets to rise above that level. It is likely markets will be trapped within a certain range for a while. The markets' over sold condition has pushed the MACD indicator to a low level we haven't seen in quite some time. Momentum and relative strength are both very over sold. Previous conditions like this have typically aligned with a market bottom. This is probably close to a level where a reflexive rally is inevitable. If that is the case, use this opportunity to rebalance risk in your portfolio. Part of the markets' decline has also been seen in the US Dollar.  The Dollar is also down to its 200-DMA. Bonds, on the other hand, have enjoyed a nice rally, and are now extremely over bought. It would not be surprising to see a pull back of the TLT to the $90 level at this point. Markets rallied on Monday, but declined over all, and are looking to open lower this morning. We are still within a very large consolidation range in which markets have been operating since last November. We're down about 4% from market highs, which may feel pretty bad (and this is where investors get on the wrong side of the trade); we're over sold with a very deep sell signal, and this is the point where markets typically start to look for an interim bottom where you get a tradable rally. Such event is an opportunity to re-balance risk (sell) in preparation for the next downturn. So we anticipate markets will struggle a bit as investors grapple with the new reality of tariffs: Markets will digest this data and then adjust for tariffs. Welcome to the month of March, which tends to be a seasonally-stronger month of the year (November-May). March and April tend to be the stronger months among these. The last half of February was not a very pleasant experience. February re-balancing of pension funds resulted in a good bit of buying at the end of the day on Friday, providing a nice recovery off support. There has been extremely negative investor sentiment, and markets have been very over sold. This month will also see end-of-quarter re-balancing, and so markets are set up for a pretty good set up for a short-term, counter-trend rally. The negative sentiment that drove investors to sell will now become the fuel to spark a rally. Markets broke the 100-DMA again Wednesday morning, but closed back above it by the end of the day. This illustrates the wisdom of allowing markets to mature before making any knee-jerk response (see today's Daily Market Commentary). We've had a very small correction, and markets are getting over sold, sentiment is very negative, and on a contrarian basis, we're getting set up for a pretty decent rally over the next couple of weeks. Too much negative bias generally turns into a market reaction which reverses that sentiment. Meanwhile, Bonds have enjoyed a nice rally, with a near 8% lead over stocks so far this year, but we're expecting a pullback as economic data continues to weaken. Bitcoin yesterday challenged its 200-DMA, and bounced off; think of Bitcoin as a proxy for risk. While the S&P has had a 3% decline, Bitcoin has had a 15% drop. A rally in Bitcoin would serve as a risk-on proxy, and translate back into higher prices for the S&P 500. Markets on Tuesday took out the 100-DMA, and lots of stop-loss levels were triggered. But, the markets actually closed for the day ABOVE the 100-DMA, and the lesson is to allow markets to mature before making moves when stop loss levels are broken. We're still in favor of selling into rallies to reduce portfolio risk. The market is getting decently over sold with four straight days of selling; so we're due for a day or two of Rally, but that may be truncated...if Nvidia lays and egg tonight, that could certainly weigh on markets tomorrow. We are in a corrective process; this is going to take a little time. (Bonds actually have a larger year-to-date gains than does the stock market at this point.)
