Each week Canadian Running staff writer Maddy Kelly and Shakeout host Kate Van Buskirk update you on the exciting world of running. This week on The Rundown we're joined by Julie-Anne Staehli. Staehli had a breakthrough year in 2021, winning the Canadian 1500m title and competing at her first Olympic Games in the 5000m. She built on that momentum this year, adding national road 5K and cross-country 10K victories to her resume, despite battling injury. In this episode Staehli describes the radical changes she made this year, both personally and athletically. She explains how she's learned to relax into the identity of being ‘elite’. And she shares why these factors are paramount to her ongoing success.
Correction: This episode of The Shakeout Podcast refers to Julie-Anne Staehli as the 2022 Canadian outdoor 1500m Champion (1:39 and 2:44), when it should instead refer to her as the 2021 Canadian outdoor 1500m Champion. We apologize for this error.
