So many people see someone struggling, notice something that needs to change, or recognise an opportunity to make a positive difference, yet they walk away believing someone else will step in. The problem is that “someone else” often never does.
In this episode of The Strong Life Project, I explore a simple but powerful question: If not you, then who?
Whether it’s checking on a mate who’s withdrawn, standing up for what’s right at work, supporting a family member through a difficult time, or simply showing kindness to a stranger, every meaningful change starts with one person deciding to take responsibility.
Too often we let fear of looking awkward, being judged, or getting it wrong stop us from acting. We convince ourselves that we’re not qualified enough, someone else knows better, or it’s none of our business. But in reality, courage isn’t about certainty. It’s about taking action despite uncertainty because you know it’s the right thing to do.
Throughout my life in policing, corporate leadership, and coaching thousands of people, I’ve seen firsthand how one conversation, one decision, or one small act of compassion can completely change the trajectory of another person’s life. You never truly know what someone is carrying beneath the surface.
This episode is a reminder that leadership isn’t defined by your title, your position, or your influence online. Leadership is choosing to act when others hesitate. It’s accepting personal responsibility for creating the world you want to live in rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
If you’ve been waiting for permission to make a difference, this is it. The next time you notice an opportunity to help, encourage, support, or lead, ask yourself one question: If not you, then who? Your decision to act today could become the turning point in someone else’s story—and in your own.
