We sat down with Team Iron's Captain, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, and General Manager, Dorina Szekeres, after a hard-fought battle in Match #10. Each give their perspective on how Team Iron has moved through the regular season and their expectations for what to expect in the play-in match on Wednesday. Kromo also reveals that to her surprise, getting through 3-rounds of butterfly skins was actually easier than 3 rounds of freestyle.

We sat down with Energy Standard's GM James Gibson and freestyle ace Siobhan Haughey to discuss their Match #8 win as well as their ISL regular season as a whole. Gibson shares his thoughts on compiling their heavy-hitting mixed medley relay last Sunday and the jackpot scoring system. Siobhan gives insight as to where she thought she'd be for the ISL regular season and how she's been able to race so consistently in the league (she nabbed her 12th career win in the 200 free last match).

As reported earlier today, Katie Ledecky will be moving from her longtime home of Stanford under head coach Greg Meehan to the University of Florida, where she will train and volunteer coach under head coach Anthony Nesty. SwimSwam's Braden Keith, Torrey Hart, and I discuss what this move means for Ledecky's career, Nesty's notoriety as a head coach, and the potential for Florida's women's program on the collegiate and post-grad side.

For the first time in the history of the ISL, jackpot points decided the winner of Match 8, favoring Energy Standard over the London Roar. If the jackpot points are removed then the London Roar would have actually beaten Energy Standard by the narrow margin of 11.5 points. Neither team received enough penalty deductions to sway the outcome, and their checkpoint points nearly even out.

Until Match 8, jackpot points had only affected the outcome of Match MVPs, but now their value to overall team standings is on display. A point brought up by Barry is that every time 4 or more swimmers get jackpotted, the winner of the race is now up 19 points, more than 2 individual wins. These point swings could affect how a team builds its roster, preferring big stars to a team with depth.

Toronto’s Razzetti and Max Litchfield gave the Titans one more point surge with a combined 27-point pick-up thanks to their check-point bonus points. The Condors were only able to score five points in the event. This put Toronto into the lead by 20 points. Despite matching Cali’s event wins, the skins ultimately decided Cali as match seven winner.
