Our bodies store our traumatic experiences ( big T and little t ) until we process them, integrate them and release them.

In the words of trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk, MD: "The Body Keeps the Score."

When we have stored trauma in our bodies it can show up in many different ways.

Here are just a few:

• emotional and physical blocks/numbness
• pelvic pain/painful sex
• pelvic floor issues
• blocks to intimacy and connection
• confusion about our desires
• lack of body confidence 
• feeling cut off from our creativity, intuition and inspiration
• limits to feeling sexual and sensual pleasure

While talk therapy can be an important component in healing trauma, working somatically, (or with the body) is an essential part of the healing journey.

One of my favorite practices to gently release trauma from the female body is The Jade Egg Practice.

Grief is a part of the human experience.

No doubt about that.

Grief is something that (in general) modern society is really bad at.

But I think we’re getting better.

New awareness and ways of supporting people in the grief process is growing rapidly and that’s very encouraging.

Being supported, heard and witnessed by caring humans while in a deep grief process is so important.

In addition to skilled counseling, kindness and compassion from others (and giving ourselves spaciousness and time), we can also offer ourselves somatic or body-based support.

I feel that having tools to process grief through the body is an essential part of the healing.

Our emotions are a powerful guidance system.

When we put our emotions in motion, the unique gifts that reside within that  emotion become available to us.

While the experience of grief can be very intense, there is always a gift within that experience.

There are ways we can allow grief to move more fluidly through the body; ways that can bring more ease and relief to the nervous system.

This might sound odd, but when we bring our sensuality into our grief it can help liberate stuck energy, soothe us, help us move through the experience with more self love and  find our center in the midsts of a loss.

I feel that having tools to process grief through the body is essential to holistic self care.

In this episode I share a bit about my own experience with grief and offer a simple sensual ritual that I often use to move grief (big G and little g) through my body.

Some people call it “Woo.” 

I call it my feminine. 

Reclaiming the mystical part of me has been (and continues to be) a deep process.

Giving myself permission to let this part of me out has been a healing journey; a spiral path for sure.

Like many, I was taught very young that this non-logical, magical, daydreamy, intuitive part of me was wrong.

Dangerous even.

And like we always do with any part of us that has been deemed “unacceptable” I learned to hide it, ignore it and essentially  stuff it.

But in doing so I was cutting myself off from a core part of who I am and the unique gifts I’m meant to bring to the world.

That produced a lot of uncertainty, anxiety and gnawing hungry ghost feeling that something was missing. 

When I began to heal my relationship with my sensuality, my mystical feminine began to resurface.

There’s an important correlation (core relation) between embodied pleasure and mysticism. 
Sufi mystic and poet Rumi know all about this.

Over time I discovered: that’s what Tantra is really about.

Once I started to open to open my body to receive more pleasure, I began to release and heal decades (if not lifetimes) of shame and fear. 

And in their place, parts of me that have been dormant for years began to emerge.

(And I see this happen with my clients all of the time).

Magic happens when we remember our magic.

And invite all of who we are to come out and play.

Most women I know, myself included, find romantic relationships to be one of the most challenging areas of life.
It’s an ongoing adventure isn’t?

Sometimes there’s connection, ease, flow, passion and fun.

In part, challenges are part of the relationship game. 

They can help us grow and heal.

We’re all complex beings and we’re all on a healing journey. 

But we can have a lot more creative control over how we feel in our romantic life when we’re willing to do some inner work. 

When we do, things can be a lot more fun.

The feminine is a force of nature. 

Society doesn’t make it easy to embody and express that.

And yet it’s absolutely key.

My own journey of reclaiming my feminine didn’t begin with sunshine, rainbows, love and light.

It began in the dark.

It began when I decided to step on the path of befriending my wild, unpredictable, untamable, stormy Dark Femme and invite her to the party.

I used to be terrified of this part of me, but what I’ve found to be true is that She’s my die or ride, my bff, my inner boundary boss and keeper of my deepest desires.

Connecting with this part of me literally brought me back to life.

This inner wild one is within every woman and holds the keys accessing the full spectrum feminine.

Society says that this energy is dangerous. It will ruin our lives and ultimately lead us to self destruction.

I say, not if we learn how to harness this creative life-force power and turn in the direction of our desires.

We can learn how to integrate our Dark Femme in ways empower us and in ways that feel good.

As one of my teacher’s once said: “Rage is passion without a place to play.”

If you struggle with your intimate relationships with the masculine,  you’re so not alone! 

Intimacy dynamics and romance are a major pain points for so many powerful women.

We can be super confident and fulfilled in so many areas of our lives; career, family, friends, but when it comes to our romantic life? 

Things can go into a confusing, destabilizing  and downright infuriating downward spiral fast.

What most of us were not taught about romance is that amazing relationships don’t “just happen” (at least not sustainable ones). 

Great relationships that can go the depth and the distance are the result of deep inner work. 

What does that look like?

The biggest shifts for me in this realm happened when I rolled up my sleeves, and took a good look at how my own inner masculine was treating my own inner feminine.

It wasn’t pretty.

I had a lot of cleaning up to do. 

But it changed everything.

And there’s a lot you can do to have a more curated, empowering, satisfying and fun experience with men.

Yes, it’s an inside job.

And an ongoing dance.
