What happens when we die? Where do we go? What is the Spirit World? What happens to little children when the have slipped to the other side? This BYU Education week talk was given originally on August 10, 2010 by Brent L. Top. Brent was a former professor at BYU and has written many books addressing  the doctrines surrounding death and the Spirit World. Some wonder what happens when we die or to those we love. This talk points to several doctrinal, documented sources, that we can not only rely on, but begin our journey to understanding the world beyond.

In October of 2015, I had the most profound thinning of the veil experience. The Lord allowed me to have a sacred, revelatory interaction with my two children, Morgan and Logan Van Smith (twins) who passed away in 1999. The messages that Morgan and Logan testified of were all about the importance of familial relationships, their involvement in the gathering of Israel on the other side of the veil and a testimony of the importance of temples on both sides of the veil. The years of enduring pain were finally over and a new enlightened way of looking at their death changed my perspective on this profound opportunity that I had to still be involved in their lives even though we live currently on different sides of the veil.

This doctrinally full article was originally printed in the April 1977, Ensign.  Elder McConkie uses a question and answer format to address the issues and heartaches surrounding the loss of little children. There truly is hope after such a horrific experience, because the Savior not only atoned for all mankind, but was also resurrected and overcame the chains of death, that we may be reunited with our celestial little ones again.

Parents who experience the pain of losing a child at whatever age and stage, find their testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ in the forefront of their minds. The doctrine of the salvation of little children is one of the most divine, merciful, and hopeful doctrines that have been restored to the earth in these latter days. Joseph and Emma Smith experienced the loss of 6 of their own children, which caused extreme pondering upon the subject of where and how their little ones were doing on the other side of the veil. Thankfully this glorious, restored doctrine, when studied, can help to heal the empty arms and broken hearts of the families left behind after these horrible losses. The Savior is his infinite mercy teaches that all are brought back into the bosom of our Father and will receive all blessings pertaining to salvation and exaltation.

A horrible accident claimed the life of the son of Brother and Sister Wells. Heavenly Father allowed this boy to come through a thinning of the veil experience to his mother. However, in relating this experience in a meeting with the Quorum of the Twelve, President McKay teaches that we may be missing out on Thinning of the Veil experiences because we aren't prepared to receive them.

When you are seeking to gather Israel, miracles can be found in many different places, including a local antique store. Several members of one family were found in an 1817 Bible, in an antique store on Main Street, Logan, Utah. The Lord clearly was in the details of this chance happening, that led to this miracle of finding long lost cousins and eternal connections.

In General Conference of October 2014, Elder Allan Packer, spoke about the needed requirements for eternal life, a spiritual passport of sorts. He teaches that Temple and Family History work gives those needed stamps in our passports not only to ourselves but to our ancestors. All the while contributing to the Book of Life, the final book,  that the whole of the House of Israel will be judged out of.
