Well, 'Trouble' sure showed them! Today's guest sure fits this show like a glove (a boxing glove, of course). Marissa Williamson Pohlman knows how to roll with the punches both in the boxing ring, and in life.
Their story is one of hardship and challenge from an early age. As a ward of the state, Marissa bounced between 16 foster placements over 5 years from the age of 13. And at 18 amidst the beginning of the pandemic when no longer eligible for care as a minor, homeless.
Despite being told 'this girl is trouble', Kel Bryant took her into his boxing club and here we are in 2024 as she becomes the first Indigenous Australian female boxer to fight at this Olympic Games.
She's got grit, resilience, sass and strength, and it was a pleasure hearing Marissa talk real and raw about her relationship with life, boxing, mental toughness, the importance of community support, and how to stay focused and motivated in the face of adversity.
