Today Jan continues her series on how to handle having someone, especially a child, disclose their abuse to you. The focus of this episode is aimed at letting the story be told by the victim in their own way without you, the listener, impacting the telling via body language or poor word choice.Β

*Correction: Throughout the episode the perpetrator is called step-son/stepbrother, he is in fact the half-brother.

Today Jan is joined yet again by author, speaker, poet, voiceover artist Michelle Jackson so we can take a deeper dive into what her healing looks like. Not only has she had to deal with lapses in her mental fortitude, she also had a daughter to raise without passing on the trauma and dysfunction that she was raised in. While not perfect at this, including a suicide attempt when her daughter was 9, she was able to collect herself and learned one of the most important tenants of healing: How to ask for help.

Today Jan is joined by Leanne who is here to share her story of repressing her severe sexual abuse as a child for 35 years only to have a bad relationship bring up all of the damage. This not only led her to seek help, but through that help she has become an advocate for speaking out about abuse and through her volunteer work as a book with The Human Library she has been able to teach others how to un-judge those who have been sexually abused as a child that didn't speak up at the time.

Today Jan is joined by Co-Host Dave Markel and guest/Executive Director of The Jan Broberg Foundation, Alan Manwaring to talk about the benefits Alan has had from finding a community of survivors to openly discuss their abuse, how important it was for Alan to connect the dots between his abuse and the dysfunctional behaviors that he developed because of that abuse, and the actual changes that occur on a physiological level abuse causes in the brain via neuropaths.

Our PurposeΒ
Trauma Interrupted with Jan Broberg exists to change the way trauma is understood, discussed, and healed. It is the primary public-facing voice of theβ¦
Β
Why It Matters?Β
Trauma narratives are often fragmented, sensationalized, or oversimplified. Survivors are either ignored or reduced to their worst moments. Trauma Interrupted reframes trauma as a human experience, not an identity, and recovery as a collective responsibility, not an individual burden.Β
The podcast is not just storytelling, it is movement-building media.Β
