This week our big news is revealed as we introduce you to our new van! We are thrilled to be in our new home on wheels, the Apollo built Windsor Genesis 220MD family van.

 Plus we are celebrating one year of living full time on the road traveling our incredible country, and are hitching up to head West and explore Queensland’s incredible Outback! 

 First stop is Charleville, then on to Longreach and Winton to hunt dinosaurs!

This week we continue our exploration of the Capricorn Region with a visit to the historic mining town Mount Morgan. Located 40 minutes west of Rockhampton, Mount Morgan makes a great half day trip for the entire family. From the suspension bridge to their historic railway museum, Jasper had a ball discovering this quaint country town.

 Next we swap the motorhome for a few nights glamping in paradise on pristine Great Keppel Island, located on Queensland’s Southern Great Barrier Reef. With its crystal clear turquoise waters, 17 secluded white squelchy sand beaches and an abundance of wildlife, no visit to the Capricorn Region is complete without a trip to Great Keppel Island!

After 11 months full time on the road in our 23ft Coromal Caravan, and the last 3 weeks in our Apollo Motorhome rental, we wanted to share our thoughts on the pros and cons, our likes and dislikes in this Motorhome VS Caravan face off.

If you are dreaming about an island getaway, this is the episode for you! 

This week we continue our stay at Ferns Hideaway Wilderness Resort in Byfield, enjoying a special Christmas in July celebration with Paul’s younger brother Jef, who also shows us how to cook damper on a stick over the campfire.

Then we swap the rainforest for the reef and head out to the southern Great Barrier Reef for 4 incredible nights on spectacular Pumpkin Island. Made famous by the XXXX Island beer commercials, Pumpkin Island is nestled in the Keppel group of islands, and is located 14 kilometres off the coast of Yeppoon.

After the dramas of last week with Paul’s broken ankle, this week we find ourselves full of gratitude!  

Paul gets the all clear from his doctor that he is healing well and fit for travel, and our good friends at Apollo come to the rescue with a fantastic surprise that gets us back on the road bound for the Tropic of Capricorn! 

Katie continues her sink or swim initiation behind the steering wheel as we travel over 700km to the Capricorn Region, and set up base camp at the beautiful Ferns Hideaway Wilderness Resort, set on 100 acres of lush rainforest and Australian bush within the surrounds of Byfield National Park.

Well this was certainly a stressful and emotionally fuelled week!  After enjoying some family fun at Cooloola Berries on the Fraser Coast, experiencing their famous Paella in the Paddock, we have an unexpected turn of events that sees us visiting the local hospital, leaving our Tropical North Queensland plans in disarray.

We’re keeping our spirits up and our fingers crossed we’ll get to the Tropics soon!

This could be one of the best weeks we’ve had on the road so far! 

 After a recommendation from some new friends, we make a last-minute booking at Trinity Islands on the Fraser Coast’s beautiful Burrum River, and enjoy a week like never before! 

 This unique park offers guests all the best parts about free camping in an incredible environment, with the added benefits of security, amenities and some of the friendliest faces you’ll meet. 

 We make the most of the experience by cooking outside on the Weber, sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows with Jasper and star gazing at the amazing night time skies. Paul whips up a delicious French Toast on the Weber for breakfast and also installs the B.E.S.T Water Filter on the van, and Katie (finally) gets behind the wheel towing the van!

Goodbye Gold Coast, hello Sunshine Coast! After 2 wonderful weeks of reconnecting with family, we’ve got the wheels turning again and have started our slow journey north towards the Tropic of Capricorn (circle of latitude). Our first stop is the fantastic, family friendly fun filled Ingenia Rivershore Resort for a few nights of easing ourselves back into van life. This park was the first place we stayed all those months ago when we first set off with the van as total caravanning newbies, and we just love it! 

We are very aware of the restrictions and guidelines that remain in place in the wake of Covid 19, and have been relieved to find other travellers playing by the rules, as we navigate this new environment.
