“Preparing for pregnancy and labour is no different than an athlete preparing for an Olympic event”, says Sophie Walker, host of Australian Birth Stories podcast. Despite almost 300,000 births each year, many Australians still don’t know much about what’s involved in carrying a baby to term, or how it can impact the body, outside of their own direct experience. Introducing my right hand woman and business partner, Grace McBride.

From an early age Grace was convinced that fitness was not part of her identity. So when I wanted to start a running program for women, she thought it was a good idea but flat-out refused to take part.

Until one day, Grace realised, in order to work on the project she'd need to reluctantly sign up. What happened next changed her entire perspective and approach to challenges in her life.

"Running is proof I can do hard things", Grace says.

It's Refugee Week and I wanted to share the story of Abbas Nazari. He was just a boy in 2001 when his family fled Afghanistan to escape persecution from the Taliban. They wound up on a rickety boat headed to Australia with 400 other hopeful asylum seekers. Shit got real when the engine stopped and the boat was stranded in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The situation became known as the Tampa Affair and it continues to shape our refugee policy to this day.

You might have seen me 'pumping up' Bronte Campbell on Celebrity Apprentice, and why bloody wouldn't I? Bronte's an Australian Olympic champion swimmer who breathes determination, discipline and grit. As a kid immigrant she made a decision to become the best at swimming and that's exactly what she did. But becoming world champion didn't solve all of her problems and in the end Bronte realised, "maybe winning was not the point".
