Brigid Delaney wishes she'd tapped into stoicism a lot earlier. Its principles have helped her take more risks, worry less, and find tranquility. How much adversity can one person face in a lifetime?

Marlene Parrott from Geelong could test the limit. Her story begins in an orphanage, where she was sent when her parents were no longer able or willing to care for her. Things turned around when she met her curly-haired partner of 38-years, Dale. They had two beautiful kids. Both kids faced their own hurdles though, including drug use and tragically, Marlene's daughter Maddison was murdered in 2018.

I really enjoyed hanging out with You Beauty's Leigh Campbell. After several miscarriages, Leigh decided to go down the IVF path. If you don't know, IVF can be a difficult for lots of reasons; injections, hormones, cost, and no guarantee that it'll lead to a child. Leigh documented the journey, which became more complex than she imagined when — after everything she'd been through (and almost giving up) — she became pregnant naturally. Twenty years on, Ali shares never before heard detail from investigators, medics, and survivors who were there when the horrific explosion ripped through the Kuta night district. Bali is a fav holiday destination for so many of us and the impact of this terrorist attack reverberated far beyond the 88 Australians who died that night.

"If I had my time again, there's no way I'd go through with that," Australian surfing icon Layne Beachley tells me, referring to her biggest regret, which she also describes as a valuable lesson. "I had to change the relationship with myself and when I did that, things naturally fell into place." It was one of many moments that struck me (in between all of the surfing advice I was trying to milk!)... You'll also hear how Layne learned to stop blaming everyone else for her mistakes and why she equates motherhood with loss and how that spurred her to become a world champion.
