Knitting in Turkey with Help from Taiwan

Syria is a country in the Middle East (中東).

Syria has been torn by civil war for over 10 years, since around March 2011.

Civil war (內戰) is when people in the country are fighting and killing each other.

The war has meant lots of people have had to leave their homes behind.

Many have gone to other countries, like Turkey.

But when they get to these new countries, the people often find it difficult to make enough money to make ends meet (賺的錢不夠).

That means they cannot make enough to buy food and support their families.

難民遷移到其他國家之後，收入常常不夠養家。

Taiwan is trying to help these people.

It has built centers (中心) in Turkey to help people from Syria to integrate into (融入) Turkish society.

One of these is the Taiwan-Renhanli Center for World Citizens in Southern Turkey.

Recently, it started a knitting program.

Knitting (編織) is where people use yarn (毛線) to make clothes and fabric (布料), usually to keep people warm.

The knitting program is helping women make enough money to support their families.

The women knit scarves (圍巾) and other things people can wear.

One woman said that before, her family was struggling to put food on the table.

一名婦女說這個計畫開始之前，她的家庭連吃飽肚子都成問題。

Now, with her salary (薪水), and her husband's salary, she can save around 200 lira each month, around 400 NT.

And with this, she can buy presents for her family.

Fake Poo Helps Owls Move House

Have you ever moved house?

If you have, did it take a long time for you to get used to (習慣) your new home?

It takes animals a long time to get used to new places, too.

Especially owls (貓頭鷹).

Some owls in America recently had to move house.

They lived on large grassy plains (大草原).

But people decided to build houses in these areas.

The owls had to be moved in order to protect them.

The owls were moved to four different locations in the state of California.

But biologists knew in order to get the owls to adapt to these new locations, they would already have to feel like home.

貓頭鷹被送到加州四個不同的地區，生物學家必須想辦法讓牠們適應。

So guess what they did?

They sprinkled (噴灑) owl poo all over the place!

Well, it wasn't real owl poo, it was just white paint, but it needed to look like owl poo.

That's because owls are social creatures; they like to live near other owls and know there are other owls around. 假的鳥糞讓貓頭鷹以為，附近還有同伴。

The biologists did other things to help the owls adapt.

They played fake owl calls before and after they arrived.

貓頭鷹到達新家的前後，生物學家播放貓頭鷹的叫聲。

And now the owls feel totally at home…

Little Mix Star Gets Solo Record Deal

Former member of the band Little Mix Leigh-anne Pinnock has been offered a solo record deal.

She is now signed to Warner Records.

We could hear new music from her soon.

華納唱片公屋簽下新歌手，就是混合甜心的Leigh-Anne.

Little Mix announced they would take a hiatus last year.

That means they won't release any new music as a group any time soon.

The band members said they wanted to work on solo projects.

Member Jesy Nelson was the first to release solo music.

She put out the single Boyz in October.

Warner Records said it is "delighted" to have Leigh-Anne join their "family".
