Valley Forge National Historic Park (0:00:00)
For today’s Adventure Club we’re talking about a national historical park... Valley Forge. Located in Pennsylvania, this park holds a special place in American History. It marks the spot where many believe there was a turning point in the Revolutionary War. We’re excited to dive deeper into its history, what this beautiful place has to offer, and what we can do there. Joining us to talk about Valley Forge National Historical Park is David Lawrence, a permanent Park Guide there.
Wearing Masks (0:19:51)
Nowadays you’d be hard pressed to find a topic that there isn’t some argument about on the internet. People disagree about politics, about medicine, about movies, about basically anything. But one debate has been particularly significant these past few months as we try to slow down the COVID-19 pandemic: whether or not we should be wearing masks. Last week, Brigham Young University researchers released a review of over 115 scientific studies about COVID-19 in hopes that it would clear things up about masks. We’re joined by the lead researcher on the project, Dr. Ben Abbott.
Geocaching (0:36:58)
When you hear the phrase “hidden treasure”, what do you think of first? For most people, the first thing that probably comes to mind is probably a pirate and a chest of gold. But did you know there are opportunities to find real hidden treasures, just a few minutes from your house? This modern-day treasure hunting is called geocaching. It’s an outdoor game where you use GPS coordinate and mysterious instructions to find hidden treasures. So how can you get started in this worldwide hunt for buried gems? Today we’re joined by Chris Ronan, the PR Manager for Geocaching.com, here with us to talk about one of the most intriguing ways to find hidden treasures.
Snail Mail (0:52:46)
I love getting mail. Whether it’s a package or a wedding invitation, as long as it isn’t a bill, there’s something exciting about getting something with your name on it. The mail we get today, however, looks different then the mail we would’ve received 10 or 20 years ago. Handwritten letters, especially, have almost completely died out. But here today is someone who has worked to revive that lost art: Ivan Cash, artist, filmmaker and founder of the Snail Mail My Email project.
Mini Book Club: Food Books (1:11:50)
Rachel Wadham, of BYU Radio’s Worlds Awaiting, talks with Lisa and Richie about the best books about food that are actually worth a read.
Law of Attraction (1:27:40)
When talking about accomplishing goals, we often hear phrases like “You get what you give.” This phrase is an example of the Law of Attraction, the philosophy that positivity attracts positive experiences and negativity attracts negative experiences. But how does this principle help us realize our dreams? Here to tell us more about the Law of Attraction and how to use it to better our lives is Anita M. Scott, one of Silicon Valley Business Journal’s “Women of Influence” and author of “The Universe is Your Search Engine.”
