  • Vikings vs Chargers - GMG Preview Show
Vikings vs Chargers… Good morning Horners! Your Minnesota Vikings have flown out to Los Angeles to meet the Chargers at StubHub Center, the soccer home of the LA Galaxy. It is the smallest stadium in the NFL only seating 30,000 fans. It promises to be mostly purple with Vikings fans as LA tries to build a fanbase in 2 hours north of San Diego. Good luck with that Chargers.
Mike Zimmer leads a team into this contest that looks to make a statement and continue to win their way into the playoffs. To play better and better football. Can they do that against the Phillip Rivers and the Chargers? They may only have a 5-8 record but every lost was by less than a score. They can play and win and should not be taken lightly. Kirk Cousins will have all his weapons with the exception of RB2 Alexander Mattison who was ruled out due to an ankle injury. Adam Thielen will be back and the idea of he and Stefon Diggs along with Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr have the potential to wreak havoc. Bisi Johnson can contribute too, but he is currently listed as questionable with a quad injury. The offense should be able to score points.
The defense seemed to employ a defensive backfield rotation that worked last week against the Lions. We should see more of it against the Chargers. Expect more Mike Hughes and Holton Hill, especially if Xavier Rhodes, who is listed as questionable with the ankle injury from last week, doesn’t play well if at all. Rivers is 38 and doesn’t move well, so that also can lead to pressure from the Vikings pass rushers too. All that will help to get a west coast win, outdoors, and on grass, if they start out hot and if the offense can get a big lead, the defense then can make the game one dimensional. That should be a goal to achieve the victory. What other keys to the game do you think the Vikings will need to do?

  • Climbing The Pocket: Episode 180 [Extension Time?]
Reunited and it feels so good. In this episode, JR makes his long-awaited return to the pod and updates us on the treacherous weather conditions in North Carolina. He also broke down the play of Kirk Cousins and why he thinks Kirk has been able to sustain such strong play over the course of this season.
Jayson brought up the possibility of Kirk being signed long-term which was swiftly shot down by Myles and Yinka citing the uncertainty of the Vikings playoff position and thus the long-term job insecurity for Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer.
We circled back around to talk about the matchup vs the San Diego Chargers of Los Angeles in which JR predicted a heartbreaking loss for the Chargers, Myles sang the praises of Keenan Allen, and Yinka provided analysis of Andre Ekler.
We close the episode with a fantasy football playoff tangent and predictions for the game.
    Enjoy.

  • Vikings vs Lions 2 - GMG In The Raw!
Vikings vs Lions… Good morning Horners! Your Minnesota Vikings move to 9-4 with a good, but relatively boring win over the visiting Detroit Lions in US Bank Stadium. With Xavier Rhodes sitting the first half and Mike Hughes in his spot, the Zimmer defense set on keeping the Lions nullified of any sort of offense attack all the way to garbage time. The offense did enough to open a 17-0 lead at half and then go to 20-0 before the Lions made their only score in the game late in the 4th quarter.
Kirk Cousins had another good day going 24/30 with 1 TD early to Bisi Johnson. The passing game generated 242 yards and the running game an additional 120. Dalvin Cook didn’t re-injure his shoulder/chest, a good thing, Stefon Diggs led pass catchers with 92 yards, but it was complimentary football to what the defense was doing. Danielle Hunter got 3 sacks today with his first one being his 50th making him the youngest player ever to reach that mark. He has developed into a true star for the Vikings. He wasn’t alone in the sack-fest however with both Everson Griffen and Jaleel Johnson each racking up one against the young David Blough. That wasn’t all for though. In his welcome to Minnesota game, he was also picked off twice, once by Harrison Smith and then by Andrew Sendejo.
In the second half, the team went into ultra conservative mode that drives many of us crazy, but it sufficient and there was no real threat. They defended the win with the final score being 20-7, even though it wasn’t really that close, and surely didn’t feel that way. It is now time to enjoy another Vikings victory and look forward to the week. Vikings win! Vikings win!

  • Vikings vs Lions 2 - GMG Preview Show
Vikings vs Lions… Good morning Horners! David Blough and the Detroit Lions head into US Bank Stadium to take on your Minnesota Vikings. After a close game loss last Monday Night against the Seattle Seahawks, the Vikes are looking to making things right in the quarter of the season with 3 out of 4 games at home. This is the first of those 3 and all are against divisional opponents. It is time to get things done on both sides of the ball for Mike Zimmer’s team.
The Good Morning Gjallarhorn gang previews this matchup. Can Matt Patricia get the Lions to play spoilers? Dave is worried that it could be the case. If Xavier Rhodes, coming fresh off his apology for his unprofessional play and behavior can defend effectively against Kenny Golladay, and the rest of the defense not make David Blough look good, the Vikings on paper and at home should take this game handily. But not wanting to offend any football gods, that was a should, but we know this is the type of game that can go wonky and a whole new set angst set in if it does. How does this game make you feel?
Kirk Cousins will lead the offensive charge again and have just about all of his weapons. Riley Reiff, as of Friday was still questionable with a concussion, and Adam Thielen doubtful with his hamstring. As much as we all want to see AT back, we want it to be healthy for the post season that less an implosion by the Vikings, they are now headed for. Everyone else on the team is a full go for Sunday.
Drew brought his $20,000 Pyramid game for Ted and Dave to test their knowledge. How quickly can you get the answers? Games in December are for the final push, so let’s see our Vikings do just that on Sunday. Enjoy the game and GO VIKINGS!

  • Climbing The Pocket: Episode 179 [Let Kirk Cook]
We begin this episode with Yinka reversing course on his previous Kirk Cousins slander and moonwalking to a position of giving Kirk a lukewarm endorsement for his play season to date.
Myles jumps in to praise the offense before launching into a rant about the lack of creativity in how Stefon Diggs has been used. With Thielen on the bench, Myles has expected to see Diggs moved around the formation and can't understand why the coaches aren't maximizing the effectiveness of one of the team's best players.
Next we discuss the problems on the Vikings defense and whether Xavier Rhodes and company can turn things around before the playoffs.
Lastly, Myles gives his thoughts on how far this team can go on the arm of Kirk Cousins with the defense regressing.
