  • Vikings vs Seahawks - GMG In The Raw!
Vikings vs Seahawks… Good morning Horners! Well, at least it is morning. Your Minnesota Vikings went into CenturyLink Field and played the Seattle Seahawks an ā€œentertainingā€ game? After leading by 7 going into the half, basically from the pick 6 from Anthony Harris, the Vikings proceeded to allow the the Seahawks score and score and score. Then when the fans were starting to get really mad, the offense started their comeback. They closed to within 4 after a missed Dan Bailey extra point. They still had a chance as the meme goes, but the defense couldn’t get that final stop. The final was Vikings 30 - Seahawks 37.
Ā Looking at the game, Xavier Rhodes was on the top of the failed when it counts list, but there were plenty on the list. There were a lot of dropped passes by the Vikings receivers including two or three by Stefon Diggs, one of those resulting in an interception that wasn’t Kirk Cousins’ fault. There were fumbles by Dalvin Cook and then CJ Ham on a kick return. There was the successful fake punt that had us questioning why no one saw it coming, especially special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf? Finally, the wide left extra point. It was frustrating and you have every right to your takes this week too.
Ā After two weeks to prepare by Mike Zimmer and his staff,Ā this was a very important game that definitely had playoff seeding implications and would have boosted the team’s perception as a possible Super Bowl contender, the falling short once again almost ensure the Vikings will roll into the playoffs as the 6th seed and have to win on the road against good teams. Do you think this team can do that?

  • Vikings vs Seahawks - GMG Preview Show
Vikings vs Seahawks… Good morning Horners! Your Minnesota Vikings are on on the road again, this time to Seattle on Monday Night to play the likely playoff bound Seahawks. Russell Wilson has played, well like, Russell Wilson and is in the running for MVP. He has his gum chewing coach, Pete Carroll, leading the squad playing above their weight and in second place behind the San Fransisco Forty Niners but more importantly ahead of the Vikings in the playoff seeding as of now. This game will determine if that remains the same or the Vikes move upward after the week. The game has playoff implications and almost a playoff feel in what it means for both teams. The Seahawks hope to catch the Niners and the Vikes hope secure the chance to win the NFC North and a loss for either team greatly diminishes those goals.
Ā Kirk Cousins has been playing overall magnificently since week 4 with Kevin Stefanski calling mostly very effective games. The Vikings weapons on offense have been humming as a result, be it Stefon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph, Dalvin Cook, or their number 2s like Irv Smith Jr, Olabisi Johnson, and Alexander Mattison. That group may grow even better, to full strength, if Adam Thielen and his tweaked hammy is good to go. That will be a game time decision. Mike Zimmer has now had the bye to game plan how to defend against Wilson’s arm and cover Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. He did last season effectively and will need to again.
Ā Drew engages in his trivia challenge again, this time the Vikings vs Seahawks edition. There are look backs at some good wins and a spin through some awesome history. If you are still recovering from a great Thanksgiving, you rock! Hopefully a win Monday makes it even better. GO VIKINGS!

  • E46: Pocket Protectors [Race For The NFC North]
We're back after a week away (Jayson's fault) to discuss the race for the NFC North title. Based on Eric's projections, there is a strong possibility that Green Bay and Minnesota finish the season with the same record. Unfortunately, if this is the case Green Bay would hold the tie-breaker due to division record. Nick makes a case for Detroit to help us out by playing spoiler in Week 17.
We revisit Eric's early season take that Aaron Rodgers is washed. Nick speaks to how Rodgers risk avoidance is affecting his overall efficiency. With Rodgers falling off, Stafford being out, and Trubisky being Ponder, Kirk Cousins is clearly the best quarterback in the NFC North.
Should Kirk Cousins be in the MVP discussions? Nick says he's in the conversation but not a serious contender unless things change drastically down the stretch. Eric says Russell Wilson is the clear MVP based on his play and the lack of help he's getting from his supporting cast (and coaching).
Should we discount Kirk Cousins' Performance because of the Vikings scheme? Top 3 rated offensive play callers in the NFL are Andy Reid, Greg Roman, and Kevin Stefanski. Given the inconsistency of coaching for year to year, Nick and Eric tackle the question of how they would deal with the Kirk's future as a Viking.

  • Vikings Bye Week - A GMG Special Part 2
Vikings Bye Week… Good morning Horners! Your Minnesota Vikings are on their bye week watching other teams play and are hopefully recovering and mending injuries in the run up to the post season, but first onto the Seattle Seahawks. Chris Gates guests on the show and breaks down what Mike Zimmer and the team need to do to get a win next Monday Night. Ted worries about CenturyLink Field and Drew about Russell Wilson versus the Vikings secondary. Are you concerned?
Ā Ted leads us in segment where everyone names the best players at different positions on the team. Many positions he excludes a player, like, ā€œwho is the best QB in Vikings history not named Fran Tarkenton?ā€ This trip down memory lane, or better than that, the team’s and fans’ heritage, is that the answers range in some cases from old school Bobby Bryant being the best CB to new school Harrison Smith being the best safety [not named Paul Kraus]. How would you answer these questions? Who do you think were the best in their positions?
At the end, we pay tribute to Fred Cox, for those that don’t know was Pro Bowl kicker and all time leading scorer for the Vikings. Drew has a fantastic story of watching him in a blustery New York against the Giants, make an almost impossible kick that will have you busting up laughing. As many know, or maybe not so many, Fred invented probably the all time perfect toy too, the Nerf football. Here’s to you Fred!
Ā It is Thanksgiving week and the Vikings are 8-3 and the drive into the playoffs is on the horizon. There is plenty to smile about, so do. Enjoy family, friends, good food, and even better times, and as always, be safe and GO VIKINGS!

  • Vikings Bye Week - A GMG Special Part 1
Vikings Bye Week… Good morning Horners! Your Minnesota Vikings are on their bye week, and as Ted said, he ā€œhopes they are getting away from football, to come back rested and ready for the stretch.ā€ It is a good time for the team to get healthy from the hamstring injuries to Adam Thielen and Harrison Smith, to Linval Joseph. It is time for the coaching staff to figure out ways to maximize production here on out, not come out flat, score more points, and play better defense. That is what a bye week is for, and that is why Good morning Gjallarhorn has the Daily Norseman’s very own, Christopher Gates as a special guest.
Ā Chris joined Ted, Drew and Dave to talk the state of the Vikings. Mentioning the defensive secondary issues with Xavier Rhodes looking old and Trae Waynes being Trae Waynes. Discussions of how good Kirk Cousins has been, and the offensive is from the improvement in the O-line to the some of the best weapons in the league being Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook, Kyle Rudolph and the young Irv Smith Jr.
Ā On part 1 of the show, there is lots of laughs. Drew came up with another game that will have you yelling the answers much as Ted and Chris did. All this why we celebrate the bye.
Ā The Vikings are 8-3 and the drive into the playoffs are on the horizon. There is plenty to smile about, so do. Be safe and GO VIKINGS!
