I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. 
我去森林生活的目的，就是希望过一种审慎的生活，只面对最基本的生活，我试图了解自己是否可以学会生活启示我的一切，以免在死的时候发现自己的生活没有意义。


I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. 
我不愿意过一种不是生活的生活，生活如此美丽，我也并不想远离世界，除非这是必要的。


I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan- like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, to reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion. 
我希望深入到生活中，取得生活的精华，要顽强地生活，就像斯巴达人那样，驱除一切不能被称之为生活的东西，把它们抛弃，然后再谨慎地修理，把生活压迫到每一个角落，把它的条件降低到最低界限。假如可以证明生活的卑微，那么就要把生活中所有卑微的地方弄明白，昭示一切人；假如生活是崇高的，那么去体验、了解它，这样在下一次远游时，把它如实记录下来。
