  • Ep 152: BONUS The Transformative Power of Vulnerability, Revival and Authentic Community with Jennie Allen and Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Are you holding back in being vulnerable with others? Is not being part of an authentic community a factor?

I had a deep discussion with my friend Jennie Allen on all things emotions and vulnerability. Jennie is founder and visionary of IF:Gathering, a writer, podcaster and public speaker who will be sharing with us:

    • There is power in friendship
    • How to pursue God-Sized dreams
    • Creating space for vulnerability
    • Emotional intelligence and spiritual maturity
    • Healing through confession
    • Living wholeheartedly and authentically

    • Friends, finding and being part of an authentic community is HUGE because it contributes to personal transformation and growth. And transformation begins by being vulnerable. And if you can’t find a community like that follow Jennie’s advice and start your own. You can do this!

Jennie’s heart for revival and vulnerability is contagious! Let us know how you are being transformed by tagging me @biancaolthoff and @jennieallen.

      Love you,

      6. Ep 151: BONUS Speaking Truth Unashamedly, Confession and Accountability with Tim Ross and Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Have you ever been misinterpreted or criticized by something you said? Are you trying to navigate the challenges of cancel-culture while maintaining your commitment to speaking the truth?

My friend Tim Ross, and my guest on today’s show, is a podcaster, social media influencer, author, and preacher who’s had his experiences with controversy and conflict, both in public and on social media.

Tim shares how he remains unashamed in speaking the truth. He also provides insights on:

        • Responding to criticism
        • Handling conflict in a mature and loving manner
        • Addressing strong language and misinterpretation
        • Anyone who has a public platform knows that there will always be online criticism and sometimes controversy. Knowing when not to engage is important.

Having a space for people to be seen, heard, known, and loved is important for healing from this and other types of trauma. Therapy and confession are a crucial role in the healing process.

Show your appreciation to Tim by tagging him @Upsetthegram and me @biancaolthoff.

          Love you,

          Quote

Confession is literally good for the soul. It's absolutely good for the soul. And there's a lot of people that confess vertically, but they don't do it horizontally, and therefore they actually don't get healed.

          Takeaways

          1. Dealing with controversy and conflict requires a strong sense of identity and purpose.
          2. Navigating cancel-culture involves staying true to one's beliefs and not being swayed by public opinion.
          3. Responding to criticism and controversy should be done with maturity, love, and a willingness to engage in dialogue.
          4. Using strong language can be effective in conveying strong emotions, but it is important to consider the context and potential misinterpretation.

                Ingredients:

                • 1 red onion, finely chopped
                • 1 pound of baby spinach (or regular spinach), washed and drained
                • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
                • Salt and pepper, to taste
                • 1 to 2 large eggs per person
                • Instructions:

                  1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
                  2. Sauté the chopped onion until it turns light and translucent.
                  3. Add the spinach to the pan and cook until wilted (about 10 minutes). You might need to add the spinach in two batches.
                  4. Cook until excess water evaporates.
                  5. Season with turmeric, salt, and pepper.
                  6. Create small wells in the spinach using a spoon and crack the eggs into these wells.
                  7. Cover the pan and cook for a few minutes until the eggs reach your desired doneness.
                  8. Serve the Persian Spinach and Eggs on its own or with some bread (such as lavash, barbari, Turkish pide, or pita bread).

                    7. Ep 148: Finding Your Voice as a Women in Ministry and Leadership with Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Do you have a calling as a woman in ministry or in leadership and are facing opposition and resistance? If God called you, He will make a way!

I’m always in awe at the stories that I hear from other women in ministry. Some knew their calling from early on. Others, like me, found themselves “unintentionally” entering into ministry and how my ambitions and desires changed over time because of God’s call in my life. No one said this would be easy. That’s why I share my stories in order to encourage you. I remember how I:

                      • Faced rejection from seminary
                      • Was asked to step down from leadership roles
                      • Encountered opposition and resistance along the way
                      • Understood my calling and committed to personal growth
                      • Despite the challenges, I want you to know that if God calls you, He will make a way. My commitment is to God and to sharing His word. Don’t let difficulties discourage you from pursuing your calling. Stay away from comparison and surround yourself with truth-tellers that will help you persevere and not give up.

Friend, it all starts with you. Remember: Be what you want to see! Share your story of perseverance by tagging me @biancaolthoff.

Bianca Juarez Olthoff - Women in Ministry

                        Quote

Don't compare your calling to someone else's. Do what the Lord has called you to do and let Him do the rest.

                        Takeaways

                        1. God's calling often unfolds gradually and unexpectedly, and it may require us to step out of our comfort zones.
                        2. Rejection and opposition can be discouraging, but they should not deter us from pursuing our calling.
                        3. Women in ministry often face unique challenges and may encounter resistance from both men and women.
                        4. If God calls you, He will make a way for you to fulfill your purpose.
                        5. Preaching the word of God should be the focus, regardless of gender or societal expectations. Representation and inclusion are crucial in leadership spaces, and efforts should be made to invite and welcome diverse voices.
                        6. Men should take responsibility for creating an inclusive and respectful environment for women in leadership.
                        7. Women in leadership face unique challenges, including the pressure to navigate communication and appearance expectations.
                        8. Leadership is not easy, but it requires perseverance and a commitment to personal growth.
                        9. Women should find their voice and be patient, understanding that their calling may take time to fully develop.
                        10. Surrounding oneself with truth-tellers and receiving constructive criticism is essential for personal and leadership growth.
                        11. Individuals should strive to be the change they want to see in the world, creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

How can faith help you heal from trauma and rebuild your life? What are some of the benefits of grieving and reframing pain after a collapse?

My guest today is my friend Mike Noriega who shares his experience of starting over after facing trauma. Mike shares his story of the collapse of a building in Surfside, Florida, which resulted in the loss of his grandmother.

                              He discusses the concept of:

                              • What is an uncollapsible soul
                              • Finding healing through grieving
                              • Finding comfort and strength in faith during this difficult time
                              • Mike opens up about the collapse of his marriage and the healing process he went through. He emphasizes the importance of grief, community, and reframing pain in the journey of rebuilding after a collapse.

When you can go through things that will break your heart, but not allow them to break your spirit, when you don't allow something to go from being a life season to a life sentence, that's how you make your soul uncollapsible.

                                Takeaways

                                1. Facing trauma and starting over requires strength and faith.
                                2. An uncollapsible soul is one that can endure pain and loss without losing hope or purpose.
                                3. Grief and healing are essential steps in the process of rebuilding after a collapse.
                                4. Community and connection play a crucial role in finding support and healing.

                                6. Ep 145: The Power Of Faith And Community And Ordinary Angels with Andrew Erwin and Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Are you drawn to underdog stories like I am? Have you ever witnessed ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances and rise to the occasion?

You don’t want to miss out on this episode where I talk to Andy Erwin, producer of the film Ordinary Angels, about the uplifting and emotional film based on this true story. This is a story of a hairdresser who becomes a hero and a friend to a widowed father and his two daughters.

                                  Andrew and I discuss:

                                  • The shift in faith-based films
                                  • The impact of telling authentic stories
                                  • The criticism and challenges faced by Christian films
                                  • Friends, we get the scoop on the story behind the film Ordinary Angels and how it came to be. Andrew tells us about the involvement of Dave Matthews and John Berg in championing the project. He also touches on the message of the film, which focuses on finding purpose and the church as a place of hope.

I love to see excellence portrayed in faith-based films. That’s why I loved watching Ordinary Angels in theaters, and I hope you go watch it too! 6. Ep 144: How To Say Goodbye // Draw The Line Series with Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Are there things in your life today that don’t align with your vision of tomorrow? What do you need to leave behind as you move forward into the future that God has for you?

It’s hard to let go of things. Trust me, I know. It is important to realize that in order for us to experience personal growth and find spiritual success, we need to have necessary endings in our lives.

Boundaries are necessary, and so are endings. That’s why today we will explore:

                                      • The need to manage expectations and investments in our relationships
                                      • The concept of pruning and setting boundaries
                                      • The emotional epidemic of entitlement
                                      • The dangers of enabling others
                                      • If there is a relationship or a situation that is holding you back from reaching your best self, it’s time to let it go. Trust God and His plan for your life.

                                        2. Setting boundaries is an act of love and self-care.
                                        3. Evaluate your expectations and investments in relationships.
                                        4. Letting go of relationships and situations that no longer fit your future is essential for personal growth and fulfilling God's plan for your life.

                                        6. Ep 143: How To Have Sexual Boundaries // Draw The Line Series with Bianca Juarez Olthoff

Do you find it hard to make sense of the different views on sex in culture? Is it time for you to reevaluate your view of sex? Join me on today’s episode to have an open and honest conversation on… sex.

Society keeps sending mixed signals on what sex is all about. I want us to discuss the topic of sexual boundaries but from a Biblical perspective. It's high time we redeem the narrative that the enemy has stolen from us! That is why we will explore:

                                          • God's original, good, and divine design for sex
                                          • Biblical view of sex vs. Cultural view
                                          • Freedom from sexual shame
                                          • We all need practical handles on sexual boundaries in marriage and for singles. Because of that, I’m highlighting the importance of respect, communication, accountability, and non-sexual intimacy.

Sex was God's idea! He intended it for our good. Don’t let the enemy steal that from you. I want you to know that whatever has happened in your life, you can find forgiveness through Jesus and develop a personal intimate relationship with Him.

                                            Quote

I don't want social media. I don't want pop culture. I don't want the ivory tower of academia to define what sex is. No. Sex was God's idea.

                                            Takeaways

                                            1. Sexual boundaries are for our benefit and not a burden.
                                            2. Open and honest conversations about sex are necessary in order to break free from shame and cultural narratives.
                                            3. In marriage, it is important to have regular communication about sexual expectations and desires.
                                            4. For singles, setting personal boundaries and seeking accountability are key to maintaining purity.
                                            5. Sex does not guarantee intimacy, and true intimacy is built on emotional and verbal communion.
