This week on The MiFit Podcast I chat with Physician, Author, and Ted Speaker BJ Miller. BJ specializes in helping patients and families face illness and death realistically, comfortably, and on their own terms. BJ has had tremendous outreach through his popular Ted Talk “What Really Matters at the End of Life” has over 10 million views on YouTube as well as his best selling book titled “A Beginner’s Guide to the End.” BJ’s passion for palliative care stems from personal experience — an electrocution shock sustained while at Princeton cost him three limbs and nearly killed him. But his experiences form the foundation of a hard-won empathy for patients who are running out of time.
Topics
-Reflecting on becoming electrocuted and losing three limbs
-The power of the mind during healing
-Using death as a way to live your best life
-How to have a better relationship with death
-Consistent themes and regrets of people on their death bed
-“We are freer than we think we are. And that freedom owes much to death.”
