In this podcast I share some insights I got while reading Ann Neumann's book The Good Death. She tells a story about meeting with a disability advocate who is adamantly opposed to medical aid in dying and how they became friends over time by listening and understanding each other's perspective. Taking more than one perspective is part of our growth to higher consciousness and I share some steps to take:
Understand how your own "lens" has formed throughout your life
Be willing to broaden your perspective beyond the one way you are accustomed to looking at the world
Let go of anger toward others who disagree with you
Define carefully the terms you use in stating your position
Listen first with an open heart
Be curious about the other person and how their "lens" came to be
Seek to understand the pain and fear that have shaped themGet my latest book The Journey from Ego to Soul
