The popularity of fasting has surged in recent years, although there are myriad approaches to restricting food intake to promote good health. One system, known as ProLon, involves mimicking the effects of fasting, by allowing small meals to be consumed during the diet. LLAMA host Peter Bowes has followed the progress of this fasting mimicking diet (FMD) ever since he took part in a clinical trial, in 2013, to explore the regime's feasibility and safety. In this interview Dr. William Hsu, Chief Medical Officer with L-Nutra, the company that markets the diet, explains the latest science behind periodic fasting nutrition and the differences between the various protocols that are often labeled 'intermittent fasting.'
