1. Taking her voice back and sharing her story with the world. In a new video on social media, Chloe Handrich, one of the young ladies, who was hit and seriously injured on Milwaukee's Water Street this summer is speaking out about the crash that changed her life forever. Handrich and a friend were crossing Water Street when a woman drove straight through barricades and hit them. The driver was given traffic tickets but wasn't arrested and hasn't been criminally charged. Handrich says the driver was reckless and didn't have insurance. The 22-year-old spent more than two weeks in the hospital, had seven blood transfusions, and two surgeries. 2. Growing anxiety among military families as the government shutdown stretches into its 10th day. The Senate has left Washington and is not scheduled to hold any more votes on the funding issue until next week. While federal employees are typically guaranteed back pay once a shutdown ends, President Donald Trump has suggested that some workers might not receive it, adding to the uncertainty.

3. We're now set for a Do or Die: Game 5. Another win for the Chicago Cubs last night means the series against the Milwaukee Brewers is all tied up. The NLDS comes down to tomorrow night's game. 1. As almost half its workforce remains furloughed due to the government shutdown, the IRS has announced new federal income tax brackets and standard deductions for tax year 2026. The changes are for tax returns filed in 2027. The standard deduction rises to 16 thousand 100 dollars for individuals, up from over 15 thou. For married couples who file jointly, it is 32 thousand 200 dollars, up from 31-5. Someone who earns the same income next year would likely owe slightly less in taxes, though the difference may be a few hundred dollars. Up to 15 million dollars is exempt from estate taxes, up from 13-point-99 million.

2. For the 7th time, the Senate has failed to advance a House-passed funding bill that would end the government shutdown. Democrats continue their filibuster, demanding an extension of expiring health insurance subsidies and a reversal of recent Medicaid cuts. Appearing on C-SPAN, House Speaker Mike Johnson faced a tearful caller from Virginia who said her family needs her husband’s military pay. In response, Johnson said the troops would be paid, if Senate Democrats would stop blocking the House-passed funding stopgap.
