1. Day Three of the government shutdown. The Trump administration has signaled thousands of government layoffs could start as soon as today. The Senate took up competing spending bills this afternoon to try to re-open the government. Meanwhile, President Trump is sharpening his threats of mass layoffs and program cuts. In fact, he posted a video to Truth Social depicting a key White House aid as "The Grim Reaper." It's an AI-generated video. They changed the song to say Russ Vought is the reaper. Vought is the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

2. A fire shuts down a Milwaukee institution. Glorioso’s Italian Market on Brady Street is closed until further notice after a fire in an office unit above the store overnight. There was smoke from the fire in Glorioso's itself, and the health department was contacted, meaning it’s likely all the food inside the store will have to be discarded. The crew is also working to determine if the building's structure is safe. Authorities say nobody was hurt and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

3. Brewers. Cubs. It's time for baseball playoffs in Milwaukee! The Brew Crew opens the National League Division Series tomorrow at American Family Field. The game time is now set for 1:08 tomorrow. Then on Monday, we have a night game and it's a late one, at 8:08. So, two games here in Milwaukee, then it's off to Chicago for the team. In fact, The Brewers just announced a fun way to send off fans in style, on the “Brewers Express”, as they're calling it, known as the Hiawatha AMTRAK train. They're going to have a bratwurst, breakfast, giveaways, mascots, music, and more!

Here's where things stand right now, the Senate is in session today, but no votes will be held in observance of the Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur. Votes are expected to resume tomorrow afternoon. If tomorrow the Senate fails to pass the House-passed resolution, the weekend is "up in the air." The chamber is not expected to hold votes over the weekend, but that could change.

2. Sean Diddy Combs will be sentenced tomorrow in a Manhattan court as a new lawsuit has emerged.

1. “It was terrorism”. That's what British police are saying about a deadly rampage at a synagogue in Manchester. The suspect rammed his car into pedestrians and started stabbing people. Two people were killed more were hurt. The attack comes on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur. The suspect was shot and killed by police. Two others were arrested.

2. It's day two of the federal government shutdown, and it doesn't appear that Republicans or Democrats are closing in on a resolution. Both sides have repeatedly pointed fingers from across the aisle for allowing the shutdown to happen.

3. Taylor Swift's new era begins in less than 12 hours! Her 12th album "The Life of a Showgirl" gets released at midnight. She has dozens of different CD and vinyl editions, plus merch and a movie. It all follows Swift's mega-popular Eras tour. Swift announced her new album back in August on her now fiancé, Travis Kelce's, podcast. She said this new album is about what was going on behind the scenes, in her inner life, during her record-smashing Eras tour.
