1. Day Three of the government shutdown. The Trump administration has signaled thousands of government layoffs could start as soon as today. The Senate took up competing spending bills this afternoon to try to re-open the government. Meanwhile, President Trump is sharpening his threats of mass layoffs and program cuts. In fact, he posted a video to Truth Social depicting a key White House aid as "The Grim Reaper." It's an AI-generated video. They changed the song to say Russ Vought is the reaper. Vought is the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
2. A fire shuts down a Milwaukee institution. Glorioso’s Italian Market on Brady Street is closed until further notice after a fire in an office unit above the store overnight. There was smoke from the fire in Glorioso's itself, and the health department was contacted, meaning it’s likely all the food inside the store will have to be discarded. The crew is also working to determine if the building's structure is safe. Authorities say nobody was hurt and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
3. Brewers. Cubs. It's time for baseball playoffs in Milwaukee! The Brew Crew opens the National League Division Series tomorrow at American Family Field. The game time is now set for 1:08 tomorrow. Then on Monday, we have a night game and it's a late one, at 8:08. So, two games here in Milwaukee, then it's off to Chicago for the team. In fact, The Brewers just announced a fun way to send off fans in style, on the “Brewers Express”, as they're calling it, known as the Hiawatha AMTRAK train. They're going to have a bratwurst, breakfast, giveaways, mascots, music, and more!
