If you’re anything like us, you’ve had at least one uncomfortable experience at a holiday gathering. Spending holidays with family and friends can be both great and unsettling at times.
With Thanksgiving coming up and the December holidays right around the corner, we share in this episode how we’ve learned to navigate food and other people during this time of the year. This hasn’t been easy for us.
First, we discuss how we used to experience holidays, then what we’ve done to shift our experience, and finally how we approach these gatherings now.
Of course, our conversation is much deeper than just food and interactions with other people. We dive into topics such as:
How to restore your mind-body connection at holiday events
What we’ve done to help ourselves not be as affected by the words and actions of others
How to communicate with others in a way that makes us feel our best
How to figure out your current values around food and holidays in general
How to change your mindset to welcome new experiencesHere are some reminders and takeaways from today’s episode:
We cannot change the people around us.
We can get clear on our values and communicate with others in a way that makes us feel good.
We are more than our bodies.
We are more than our current situation.
Setting boundaries with other people is healthy and can help us get to where we want to go.
We are responsible for protecting our peace and making space for growth.
Our values will change and it’s okay to change even though it makes us and the people around us uncomfortable.
We can lead by example and encourage others to grow too.We encourage you to reflect on these reminders and get clear on what your current values are.
