One year ago, on March 1, 2025, I hit publish on the very first episode of this podcast.
I was terrified.
I had never been consistent with long-form content. I had never committed to showing up every single week. I had never built something that required that level of accountability to a team and to you.
And yet, here we are.
One year later, this podcast has landed in the top 10% of all podcasts globally according to Listen Notes. If you are not familiar, Listen Notes is essentially the Google of podcasts. It is a widely used, reputable third-party search engine and database that assigns a “Listen Score” to estimate a show’s popularity compared to others around the world.
Top 10%.
Not because I went viral.
Not because I gamed the system.
But because I showed up consistently when it would have been easier to stay comfortable.
In this episode, I reflect on what one year of uncomfortable consistency can build, and then I pivot into a question that has been sitting heavy on my heart.
If you were building your business in 1995, would it survive?
No Instagram.
No Reels.
No Canva.
No email automations.
No hiding behind curated grids and safe posting schedules.
Just networking.
Cold conversations.
Referrals.
Face-to-face rejection.
Actual demand generation.
Inspired by the recent Traitors finale and the strategic gameplay of Rob, we also talk about environment. He intentionally removed the biggest personalities and engineered a finale he could control. Which raises an uncomfortable question for entrepreneurs:
If we follow the 80/20 rule of marketing, are you truly spending 80% of your time generating demand and growing your business?
Or are you posting a few times a week, staying small, staying invisible, and wondering why bookings are slow?
March 30th I will go deeper into what it actually takes to build a business that would have survived the 90’s and will still be standing long after today’s algorithms shift.
Because if your business only works because Instagram exists, it is fragile.
And fragile businesses break.
Here’s to one year of choosing consistency over comfort.
And to building businesses that would survive any decade.
