Cate Shanahan M.D has over two decades of clinical experience and expertise in genetic and biochemical research, and specializes in helping patients to reverse metabolic disease and reshape their bodies. She is a board-certified family physician who trained in biochemistry and genetics at Cornell University before attending Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. For ten years, Dr. Shanahan practiced medicine in Hawaii, where she studied ethnobotany and the culinary habits of her healthiest patients. She currently serves as the Director of the Los Angeles Lakers PRO Nutrition Program and in March 2017 will be working in Newtown, CT. Dr. Shanahan's new book Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food shows us how the campaign against saturated fat initiated sweeping dietary changes that affect our gene expression and replication. Dr. Cate illustrates how the modern diet has affected our health over the past few generations, delving into the science behind altered expression of our DNA, our predisposition to disease, even our physical appearance. She lays out the essential elements all traditional diets share in common, a roadmap in the form of traditional recipes, showing you your clearest path back to optimal health.
