1. COMMEMORATIVE BANKNOTES FOR BEIJING OLYMPICS ISSUED
冬奥纪念钞正式发行，银行网点人山人海

Commemorative【纪念性的】 banknotes for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics went on sale today. Zhang Hong tells us more.
2022年北京冬奥会纪念钞今日（12月21日） 正式开始发售。

At the Tianshan Road Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, bank staff were busy counting money as many people were buying the commemorative banknotes. One employee said he had counted over 10,000 bills within the first 60 minutes of opening.
在中国工商银行的上海天山路支行，不少市民赶早来兑换纪念钞，柜台变成了小型人工点钞现场。一位工作人员表示，才开门一个小时，就已经点了一万多张。

I’m a little tired. I had to count the bills manually because some are polymer【塑料聚合物，塑料的】 notes. The counting machine can damage the bills. I’m expected to count 400,000 yuan (62,760 dollars) worth of cash.
有点累，手有点酸，这次必须是手工点，因为纪念钞是（有）塑料材质的，如果用机器走，钞票会损坏//我到下班估计要点40万（62760美元）现金吧

A set includes two 20-yuan (3.1 dollars) bills. The polymer note and the paper note feature a figure skater and a freestyle skier, plus the official emblem【徽章，标记】 of the 2022 Winter Olympics on the same side.
一套纪念钞一共有2张，面值均为20元（3.1美元）。其中塑料钞和纸钞上的图案分别是花样滑冰运动员和自由式滑雪运动员，同时纪念钞都还印有2022年冬奥会的会徽。

A total of 200 million sets of commemorative banknotes were issued and will be available until next Monday. In October, 200 million sets of commemorative coins were issued.
此次冬奥纪念钞共发行2亿套，兑换期截止至下周一（12月27日）。此外在10月份，还发行了2亿套冬奥纪念币。


2. CHINESE DIVERS PLUNGE INTO SALT WATER
全红婵亮相短池游泳世锦赛，海上大秀“水花消失术”

The best swimmers on the planet are finishing their last day at the 15th FINA World Championships in short course swimming in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Four Chinese divers placed 3rd yesterday after Brazil and the United Kingdom in the diving team exhibition event that took place in the sea. Sun Siqi takes a look.
在阿联酋阿布扎比举行的第15届国际泳联世界短池游泳锦标赛上，世界顶尖游泳运动员们齐聚一堂，参与本届赛事最后一天的角逐。昨日（12月20日），4名中国跳水运动员也参加了海上跳水表演赛，最终排名位列巴西和英国之后，获得了第三名的成绩。

Divers used the same open-air venue as high divers, plunging【突然下落，冲入】 from a 10-meter platform into Yas Bay. For many divers, it is their first time diving into salt water. Tokyo Olympics debutante, China’s 14-year-old Quan Hongchan, aced her dives in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events.
跳水表演赛与高台跳水资格赛一样，都使用10米跳台，并在亚斯湾的公开水域进行。不少选手都是首次挑战“海上跳水”。此前在东京奥运会上首次亮相的14岁中国小将全红婵也参加了比赛，在女子单人和混双10米台的比赛中获得了第一名。

The short course World Championships take place in 25-meter swimming pools and are held every two years. This year’s championships mark the first time athletes in diving, high diving and open water swimming are also competing at the event.
短池游泳世锦赛是在25米长的泳池里进行的游泳世界锦标赛，每两年举办一次。本届赛事堪称“水上嘉年华”，首次纳入了马拉松游泳、跳水表演赛和2022年游泳世锦赛的高台跳水资格赛。


3. JAPAN WILL PAY 1.55 TLN YEN OVER 5 YEARS FOR HOSTING U.S. MILITARY
驻日美军“保护费”上涨，日本财政状况再恶化

Japan and the United States have agreed that Tokyo will pay about 1.55 trillion yen (13.6 billion dollars) for hosting U.S. military troops over a five-year period starting in April next year. Lei Shuran has more.
日本和美国围绕2022年度起驻日美军的经费分摊达成一致。日方同意自明年4月起，在未来5年内支付约1.55万亿日元（136亿美元）。

The average amount per year is about 211 billion yen (1.85 billion dollars). In the current fiscal year, the support to cover expenses, such as utilities【公费，水电费】 and the wages of Japanese staff at U.S. military bases, was budgeted at 201.7 billion yen (1.77 billion dollars). 
按照协定，日方平均每年将负担超过2110亿日元（18.5亿美元）的经费。而在本财年，日本计划用于驻日美军基地的经费预算则是2017亿日元（17.7亿美元），包括基地水电费和工作人员的薪水等。

The agreement will be signed during a meeting involving the two allies’ defense and foreign ministers to be held in the United States in January. Cost-sharing agreements between Japan and the United States are usually signed to cover five-year terms. But for fiscal 2021, the two countries settled for a one-year extension of a five-year pact that expired in March of 2021, as their talks were affected by the transition of presidential power in Washington from Donald Trump to Joe Biden.
相关协定预计将在2022年1月在美国召开的日美外长和防长（2+2）会谈上签署。日本与美国签订的驻日美军费用分摊协定通常每5年更新一次。现行协定原定2021年3月到期，但在2021财年，因更新协定谈判赶上美国政权交替，双方决定将协定延长1年。
