All the years of trauma and abuse you have blocked out come flooding back and your life changes. Suddenly you recall a thousand times your mother behaved the same way and you accepted it. You were numb to it. The times she didn’t listen, the abuse you told her about and she ignored. The manipulation, the gaslighting. Everything becomes so clear and you can’t stand to be near her, you can’t see her, you’re done. And all because, in that moment, when you were ready to apologise once again, you realised you were still being manipulated and something desperately needed to change. Connecting with the truth of our past is what truly sets us free.
